When I went back for my CDL, 2011, NM, the requirements were 40hrs classroom, 160hrs in a truck. 4 students, 40hrs at the wheel. We did the backing D33r mentioned. Like Horseshoe said, tell us a month after you get in a truck how much you double clutch and how much you float. You'll use the clutch at times, float most of the time, I believe. It's just smoother, easier on you and the equipment. My truck just turned 1M miles, it likes the clutch when it's run all day.

When you get to class, one thing they teach you is how to remove your mirrors when you get assigned your very own truck.
"Why would they do that" you ask.
Because when I come up behind you in the hammer lane, you guys just ride there to your hearts content never looking in the mirror to see if anyone needs to get by, while you stare into the black hole of nothingness in the windshield!
Be aware of your surroundings, cars & trucks ahead, beside & behind. Just have some common courtesy for your fellow driver. -
I never ran fast when I was OTR, and was always willing to get out of it to let a faster truck around on a two lane.
-
I do the same. If a truck is trying to pass I have no problem letting off a little. A lot of em wont give an inch.
-
I never learned how to drive a 10 or 13 speed and I still don't know how to drive one. The school I went to taught us on 5-Speed Macks and now I drive a 6 speed Mack. I've also never driven a truck with a sleeper on it. Like previously said though, you will spend A LOT of time learning pre trip. If I still had my CDL school cirriculum, I'd post a picture of it but I think I threw it away.
