Most money for a rookie?

You should knock on doors. I hear that helps when looking for new metaphors.

 

After over 11 years off the road, I am going back. I did my first year with Schneider and they trained me. It was a rough year. My opinion is that trucking is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't worry about making top$$ your first year. Focus on safety and long term goals.

 

I'm curious , did you go to the green bay sta? When were you there?

 

I was in Green Bay Jan. 2003

 

We were almost classmates. I was there in March.

 

The first year was something else. I cam from a white collar backround and was quite naïve. I did the first year to pay off the "loan" Then I drove for Maverick for a while. Maverick was a pretty darn good experience. I was never lied to!!

 

I lucked out and did exactly one load in the system before I was offered a dedicated account. Home weekends and made pretty good money.

That first 6 months was definitely a reality check but I stuck it out and stayed there for almost two years before going local. I enjoyed my time there and regretted leaving for several years afterward. I worked with two of best people I've ever encountered in trucking. I didn't fully understand how good I had it . Of course, I never really dealt with Green Bay unless I needed a Maine trailer permit or something.

If you were pulling system freight, you are to be commended for exceptional gumption and sticktuitiveness. I don't think I'd have made a year in the system.

 

I was Wal Mart out of Olney, IL. It stunk, but it really made me appreciate driving for Maverick.

 

I kind of feel sorry for those folks that think you don't need the miles as my good mate Larry the cable says "Getta Done" or as i would say "Go hard or go home" Just do the maths and any average driver could figure it out for themselves the more miles you do the more pay at the end of the week now if perhaps your happy with making only $500 per week thats fine most people though have financial commitments and would need more like $1000 per week even @ .38 per mile 2000 miles will only net you $760 ok lets go to .42c per mile thats still only $840 net so simple maths tells you the more miles you drive the more extra cash will be in your pocket.
