There is that. I didn't go into details here & at this point I won't, but I don't like paying by the mile. I like to load a truck for revenue not miles. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm with you on the per mile thing its not for me.
I like my pay structure. Straight percentage of gross. Nothing to hide. Just simple math to figure out my pay. -
Here's what my job entails:
I pull dry van. I fingerprint most of my freight, which pays by the piece - around $0.18-$0.26, minimum 1000pcs, to a weight limited max of around 1400pcs.
I average $1500/week on < 2000 miles. Total time working is 9-14 hours per day, with an occasional 16 hour day. I'm home every night. I pay $75/week for family medical / dental coverage. I have a 401(k) with company matched contributions up to 6%. I have paid holidays off. Weekends off unless I want to work extra. I have 1 week paid vacation, paid at my daily average over a rolling 365 day period. Vacation increases with longevity. No slip seating.
When I haul no-touch freight, I'm paid $0.47/mile. In the event of a layover, I'm paid $50 layover pay, plus company paid hotel room. $15/hour detention pay after 30 minutes. $15 live load / live unload pay. $5 to drop a trailer, $5 to hook a preloaded trailer. I have electronic logs, and I'm paid a $300 per quarter log bonus if my logs are accurate with trip numbers, trailer numbers and 100% DVIR accuracy.
One thing that I'd like my company to offer that they don't is a rider policy. I would like to bring my spouse along with me, but the company has never allowed riders during their entire history (almost 100 years in operation).
I think that the issue is that the drivers that you're looking for are working jobs similar to mine. And it's going to be difficult for you to lure them away. I'm not sure what the solution is for you. -
RStewart Thanks this.

To me the answer is simple who wants to stay out for weeks at a time when you can get close to the same miles and be home on weekends and the old school otr guys are getting out cause of all the bs in this industry. You also offer no health insurance which hurts you.Me for example 21 years experience i'm not working for cpm, either percentage or hourly and time an a half after 40.I make what was mentioned in 4.5 days running ltl reefer running out to chicago and wisconsin then back home and average around 2,000-2,200 miles per week getting paid by the hour
-
Ok fine if you dont want to tell what you pay here is my answer.
I'm not getting out of bed for less then 50 cpm, and 14 dollars and hour once I bump a dock, I want my entire family covered for health insurance no more the 2% of my income. I'm not taking screw ball runs where I get 3 hours of sleep. I want to be home home when I want not the day after.
I can get what I want because I'm a good driver and I don't trash the equipment.
You can take your apu, fridge, and new truck and give it to anyone that's not going to get you a good driver. -
Reading on the forums you can see multiple times where people say that they don't get paid well and they are driving junk that breaks down all the time. Are you saying that I should not have nice equipment and other amenities to offer our drivers? Did I assume wrong, that people would like to have nice equipment to run? Doesn't having the extra stuff make it more comfortable for the driver? It certainly doesn't make me money, it actually costs quite a bit more. -
