Catalinaflyer, you are in the right here. The rules state that even without a stop sign when you are coming out of a driveway you stop at the sidewalk and again at the road. For those that want a link, go reread your drivers manual that you supposedly read when getting your drivers license at 16.
Anyhow you can see your hood dip a little bit when you see the truck pulling out but only slightly and that is what actually gave you the extra time that was mentioned. Either way, drivers should know not to pull out so to cause another truck to have to take action to avoid them.Speedy Sailor, 12 ga, Gereke and 2 others Thank this. -
Looking at the video, neither truck could see the other because of that big tree. Have you ever stopped looked both ways, and you take off and all the sudden someone comes around the corner? It happens, and I don't see a stop sign not that it really makes much difference because if he was completely stopped when you were able to see him he likely would have waited for you (not always the case).
Whats safer, a truck sticking halfway out in the road because the courteous driver stopped and waited for you, or he just hammered down and hopes that you will back down a couple mph?
Its hard to tell just by the video, but I believe you, and this happens to me almost once every time I run a city route.
If you had hit him, you would have been at fault, as a 29 yr driver Im sure you already know that. Also I am reasonably sure that 29 yrs ago, that truck either wouldn’t have pulled out in front of you, or you would have told him to go ahead and pull out. Things have changed.Speedy Sailor and Csnemrod Thank this. -
Yes, I shouldn't have blown the horn at him when I went by and I'm man enough to admit that.
Now as for who would have been at fault had I hit him, that's something for the courts to decide but that's the precise reason I have a dash cam. The dash cam in my ex wife's vehicle has already saved our rears one time when she was hit. The evidence at the scene of the accident suggested my wife was at fault. We showed the responding police the footage from the dash cam and based solely on that evidence they faulted the other driver and issued him 3 citations. Then the insurance companies got involved and the "accident investigation" team from his insurance decided my wife was at fault. Once again we sent the file from the cam to our insurance company who then presented it to his insurance company and what do you know, she had a new car a week later along with a pretty healthy check to cover all the expenses incurred as a result of the accident.
I'm not going to continue a p*****g match over whether or not I was wrong. I didn't run a stop sign and I was legally driving on the road 8-9 mph below the posted speed limit.
I'm also not going to get into a p*****g match over the dash cam vigilante comment because if I really wanted to be one I could post hours of what I perceive as bad driving every day. I chose to post this one because the driver acted like I was the one in the wrong when we stopped at the next light. I admit two wrongs don't make it right but I'll also argue that blowing the horn at him reminding him to look before blasting out onto the road wasn't wrong. My opinion and like it or not, it's my god given right to have one.Speedy Sailor, Gereke, MJ1657 and 2 others Thank this. -
