This is kind of relevant to the discussion at hand but I was just curious as to how the insurance companies track experience. Does your employment history get submitted to the insurance company or do they go by how many years you've held your CDL?

Good grief like you can't learn it with one load.I'm starting to think all the laws in place isn't the reason why companies are having such a tough time finding drivers.

I'm thinking the carriers might lie about the exp.I drove for a side dump company and their insurance required 2 yrs driving a side dump,I had zero exp and still got hired.

Oh that would be me. I have four kids and a wife and I dont want to be gone from my family for extended periods of time ranging from 3 weeks to a month and a half.

I don't want to spend time with someone I don't know, not even sure if I like for extended periods of time either.

If you had a great time over the road, awesome. If I was single and young, it would be a great adventure.

    That's completely lame.

I think there is more talented people than what we have jobs for. I think it's why they make up all these gateway rules. You have to have an associates degree, a master degree etc etc. Some things, I get it. You don't want the bumb on the corner doing brain surgery.

BUT, I have read interviews with actual freaking rocket scientists and even though they had massive degrees, they explained how they didn't use nearly anything from college and learned it all on the job. They said they could even teach what they do to the average person in a couple days.

There will always be a local/regional outfit that will hire anyone with a piece of paper and a heartbeat. That should surprise no one. I'm in Socal and I can name you outfits that will hire anyone who has enough brains to find the steering wheel and the gas pedal but I wouldn't recommend these guys to any of my enemies.
The key word here folks is "better". I said it once and I will say it again, the best driving jobs, IMHO, are with the private fleets. Private fleets want experience.

For those of you noobs who don't know what a private fleet is, these are company operated trucks that are not for hire.

    ie.
Frito Lays, Walmart, Ashleys Furniture, Arco, 76, Praxair, Krogers, etc....
