Simple answer is to move to a better freight lane. Most people have no problems relocating for a higher paying job. You should consider moving.
As you consider moving, start looking into LTL. FedEx Freight, SAIA, UPS, YRC, Holland, Pitt Ohio, yadda yadda yadda. You'll make at least $40,000 a year with a good LTL, and that is only if you work 40 hours a week. You can double that number working overtime and holidays.
What would you do in my situation?

Keep doing what you're doing but start looking as well. There are a few milestones in this industry, that's 6 months, 1 year and 2 years. I don't recall ever seeing a company that required more than 2 years. Once you figure out a rough idea that will work for your needs make sure you get your experience to match. If you find a good flatbed company that requires experience call them and see if they want flatbed experience, some do but some would rather train you there way and they just want driving experience. you can find better jobs than what the megas offer with 6 months so feel free to look but keep in mind if the job you want requires 1 year it may look better to not be job hopping every 6 months.
On on the same token most companies understand a guy getting away from a mega asap so you should be fine. -
Just a guess but based on were you live and what you say you are making I'd bet you work for USX, if thats true ask about their dedicated accounts, I dont know if they have them in your area but they have a lot of them, and they get you home weekly.
