Billerd. have you had any luck or tried any of my suggestions? I know that must be costly to have empty trucks sitting.

I actually don't have an open truck right now. I will be looking in the near future because one of our guys has some family issues and will be coming off the road in a few weeks. I have been looking at the trucker vlogs on youtube though. Definitely interesting to watch.

I have no issues saying what our pay is, Im just not advertising for drivers right now and this is not the appropriate place in the forums for that. If you would like to PM me directly I would be more than happy to let you in on our "secret" such as it is!

You certainly may not have any success with my ideas, they are just that, ideas. I think we can both agree that the usual methods of recruiting don't seem to apply for your situation. It is interesting to watch the youtube stuff, and you really learn about the characteristics of those drivers.

Do you find that you are always happy with the percentage of gross? It is a good way to contain costs and to limit the liabilities associated with the truck...

I never thought we were asking for much. I am not one to micromanage a situation. I am not a "know it all" either. We have always taken into consideration and appreciated suggestions made by our drivers. We just want the equipment to be looked after and kept clean. We just want our drivers to look and act professional at all times. We just want to have people working with us that want to grow with the company, people that will treat the equipment and others with respect. Give us a call and let us know how their day is going, Let us know about any maint. issues with the truck/trailer. I don't send messages or try to call when someone is sleeping. (we have Qualcomm in the trucks) For the most part we let the driver do his job.

I think the biggest issue you have is that so many potential drivers need the health insurance.

I am seeing that. I am looking into it now. The real issue is that it should not be a stumbling block for anyone. You can get the insurance on your own as well. Maybe people don't know how?

I have no idea if they do, but I wonder if OOIDA has anything for owner operators with a small fleet? When I had my own business I purchased my own health insurance and it was over $400/month just for myself. I would expect it would be around $1000 for a family.
