    Biggest problem with the industry, is all the new people who think it is an easy job, that they will make $100,000 per year at. Keeps the mega carriers in business, pulling that cheap freight, to those who cares grocery distribution centers.

    Not that ridicules 14 hour rule, or stupid CSA points system, dispatchers, brokers, shippers and recievers who have no idea of what hos is about. not sitting in a door for 2,3,4,5 hours while your clock ticks away, or how 60% of all 4 wheelers feel determined to commit suicide by big truck. or, the undertrained drivers, the immigrant's who have little or no idea of our rules of the road. Not the governed trucks, insane split speed limits, and truck lane restrictions, worn out road paint so you can't see the lines when it's dark and raining. No! none of those things matter, at least not as much as people urination habits.
    This poster asked for opinions on the problems that exist in this industry, not petty personal annoyances.
    Don't get me wrong, I don't like the smell either, one of the main reasons I rarely sleep at truck stops, but I wouldn't list THAT as one of our major problems.

    Biggest problem is the pay-per-mile model. If you want to know the real source of trouble in trucking, that's it.

    I get paid way better per mile than most noobs in this industry, but I get nothing for having to spend three hours securing a really screwed up load. I have pride in my work and an appreciation for my responsibility to others on the road. But I have a perverse financial incentive to skimp on anything but driving. When you have direct financial incentive to falsify logs, skimp on proper securement, drive when tired or too fast for conditions, a distressingly large number if people will do those things. When companies are paying 25-30 cents a mile in top of that... It's a recipe for disaster.

    truck drivers are just treated as not equal and looked down on by the general public. i happen to be very proud to drive a rig for a living. i wish there was more courtesy and respect on the road but i dont see that changing anytime soon. its a ME ME ME world we now live in.... it is what it is..

    My experience just doesn't square with this. I've been in truck stops with really bad parking where I've seen 3 guys jump out if their trucks to spot a guy in at midnight. I've seen old hands going over a load with new guys giving tips. I get flashed/thanked sometimes, but that's a trivial issue.
    MY experience with truckers has been 99% awesome.
    I think some folks are just looking for a reason to be mad.

    Just look around at how fat a lot of drivers are, they don't care about themselves so they certainly don't care about being lazy and pissing wherever
