I suspect the pocketbook spoke louder than the public. While I don't have a problem with Vista it's simply got more bells and whistles built into it than the average person needs or wants. And all those extra features drive up the hardware requirements.

Business usage is the largest driver of software/hardware purchases and Vista simply doesn't fill a need that isn't already being met by XP.

And Vista won't run on the low end computers that are becoming more and more popular.

Right now, XP will be supported through 4/8/2014 for security patches. They will not be putting out any non-security hotfixes or adding any extra features after 4/14/2009.

Well most business are going to wait for the next windows OS.
Vista has a lot of problems that I have seen... you can't load XP programs and expect them to work as well on vista as XP... also there are some security issues..

I would not agree with this... Vista is not to blame for 2nd and 3rd party programs not coding their software.. Microsoft made it well known that their was going to be changed many many years ahead. Software companies where just slow to change, this is why you seen such a driver shortage because software companies were just to lazy to develope them ahead of time..

If one understands Vista and how it uses hardware then they would know that Vista is going to get faster and better as newer faster hardware is released.

Security issues have been relaxed by Microsoft with updates and virtually not really an issue anymore, unless you have not updated Vista..

XP when it was released if you don't remember had many issues as well and over time became a very nice OS, just as Vista will..

Vista runs fine on machines that have decent specs.. Its the low end computers that have issues, the ones that don't have seep..

When the faster machines that we have today become considered low end, as history shows that will be in 2-3 years , then Vista will be the standard..

Well you buy the Microsoft trash. I'm moving to linux. It is a lot more stable platform. I have 3 linux machines running and 6 XP machines 1 98 machine and 1 95 machine. I'm always having to reboot the windows machines. I have yet to reboot the linux machines. I add and remove programs no problems. Maybe that is why MAC went to linux for their OS...

Mac went to Linux for cost reasons.. not saying Linux is not a decent OS

Most people who have issues with Microsoft OS as you are, usually has to do with poor maintenance.. Cleaning your system with well known spyware/malware programs (weekly if not daily, i do mine daily), regular scans with Anti virus and very important that most people always forget is to defrag..

If you use your system alot (business) then defragging often is important to keep the chains together.. If you just use your computer leisurely you can get away with monthly defrag (some say 6 months but I would not recommend that long) another issue is people tend to thing they can go without defragging for a long time then just defrag. It does not work like that.. The fragments will be so scatters on the drive it will be almost impossible to get things correct. So, another words if you don't maintain your drive regularly and just decide to defrag it may do more harm then good..

Then you also need to keep the system clean using programs like CCleaner.. this will slow your system if you don't keep the garbage cleaned out..

When installing any program you should do so on a clean well maintained system.. If not then you will most likely experience issues..

When installing updates you need to have a clean well maintained system (should always clean your system before installing any update)

Also if you leave your computer on 24/7 it is recommended to reboot once a week, something most people don't know..

Clean system= a well running low issue machine...

I set my systems like this... its all auto and does it on its own..

    Everyday
Spywareblaster update (it don't scan just prevents) 9:00 pm
AVG update+scan(spyware and virus) 9:30 pm
    Adaware update+scan 11:30am
    Spysweeper update+scan 1:30am
    Spybot & search destroy update+scan 3:30 am

    Once a week
    Defag Wed 5:30 am

CCleaner I have to run on my own and do it as often as I can and don't go a week without using it..

Having to frequently reboot a Windows box is an indication of a cluttered machine. I agree with most of what Truckerjo says, but that schedule may be a bit much. Defragging is rough on a hard drive. every few month should be good enough.

CCleaner is great. It's the best software I've found for getting rid of clutter by just letting it run and get rid of whatever it recommends.
