Hi, I have a 1998 Peterbilt and just recently purchased a 1999 Great Dane Trailer. The ABS works on the truck but not on the trailer. There was no ABS light on the trailer when we got it. I put a light on and it just stays on. When I put the key on I hear the four (4) clicks in the rear of the trailer, the light comes on and stays on. When I pull the plug out on the ECU valve ( I believe that's what it's called) the light goes out. I plug it back in you hear the four clicks, if you move the plug a little the light goes off, if you move it a little the other way it goes back on and stays on. Does it sound like the plug is bad? or what could it be?
Thanks I appreciate the help.

The four clicks tells you that the abs is doing its power up test. When the light comes on and stays on you have a problem. It could be as simple as a sensor out of adjustment or a bad connection in the abs wiring harness. The light wasn't on the trailer because the previous owner chose either to not find the problem or fix it. You can determine whose abs system it is and then go on the internet to see if you can do a self-diagnosis and repair. The other option is having a shop check it out using the proper tools.

Thank you, I'll find out who makes it then and do more research. Appreciate the reply.

If you do find that you have a wheel speed sensor that is out of adjustment, I would advise checking your wheel bearings. Loose bearings will cause the sensor to give false reading and trigger a fault.

Once you figure what's wrong and fix it, keep in mind that you will need to drive it around 5-10 mph before the light will go out. So say that you find that need needs a wheel speed sensor and replace it, don't be concerned becasue the light still comes on and stays on. The ECU cannot complete it's self check after a fault until it sees wheel speed from all sensors. After you drive it and the light goes out, the next power up should be normal, the light will come on for a few seconds, then go out.
