Now i know you guys are gonna say I'm bat poop crazy. I had a rough go of it at first. My first trainer was an owner operator who ran into a bad patch of luck. He had scheduled home time for the 4th of july theb went out following monday and that week truck imploded in NM. Got in a minor, non preventable mva in Albuquerque. Sat for 15 days, got going, then he took more hometime.
57 hrs in 28 days. Not good.
Callled student and new trainer picked me up next day.
He was awesome.
Once i got off curfew, we burned up my training in a little more than a month. I learned a ton from him. He had an educational explanation behind every thing he instructed me to do. Not just do this because i said to.
Finally got my truck. 2013 FL. Good enough for first truck. My FM got me a home load out of Atlanta on the friday of labor day weekend going 18 miles from my house. Good deal.
It was a heavy ### 45k load of concrete. Left hotlanta Saturday morning did 604 miles in 10.25 hrs, and this included stopping to scale load. Not bad for a rookie.
Was home sunday after doing 550 miles in 9.5 hrs.
They paid for my truck to be parked for 38 hrs since the nearest truck stop is 55 miles north of me in NH.
I was paid my rate of 42 cpm for those miles.
Got routed into dc for orientation of account.
Wasn't thrilled as i was out 2.5 months training and wanted my 5 days of hometime after delivering home load.
Got 2 loads done in 3 days.
Made $600 for those 3 days. They assigned me a load 10 miles from my house. That store allowed me to keep the truck there this weekend.
I do have to bring my truck into freightliner in am due to a small issue that dealer has to take care of.
Stuff happens. Trucks break.
But werner upped the pay on my account to 42 cpm plus the trailer unload. That's for all miles.
My health insurance is better than my last company. They detailed the interior before i was assigned the truck. They called to make sure i was satisfied with the truck. I am. Royal blue freightliner with 10 spd. That royal blue is a pretty color. I didn't want a pete or kw. Just didn't care for them after my first trainer's truck. Especially for the close quarters manuvering I have to do for this account. The FL does just fine.
Overall not bad.
They still need to approve my passenger permit which they've dragged on.
The 5 days after training still needs to be addressed.
However i haven't had a problem with one employee either at my dc or in any terminal. They've all been nice to me.
Yes, i have to unload trailers. It's sucky. But i like money, and i don't like just sitting.
I lost 5 lbs this week alone, and my body is starting to feel better after some rest this weekend. Oh, i can have every weekend off as the account calls for, or i can stay out and run further. I can also elect nyc, and drive pups instead of full loads. However i need to show them i can work before i can sign up for that. No big, they've already challenged me with a few tight stores and i passed those tests without an issue.
They've surprised me for a big company. It's the first big company I've worked for since high school.
However for me they work.
And i work for them so far.
So far so good at Werner

It could be worse. It could be better. However that account I'm on i can make serious money once my body adapts to the physical work and i learn the ins and outs. Serious money. Like mid tier ltl money. And be home any weekend i want to be.
