It was about freight availability, basically there is less freight to haul now, it was not about the price

2015 is not near what 2014 was. I am glad I did not buy new equipment last year when there was loads more freight to move. It is slow all around I believe .. But this can be a financial lesson ... Save the money for slower times like these ... Those that survive these times will be in good shape when it rebounds. Those that expanded capacity in 2014 must now be feeling the pinch.

I suspect a lot of the freight as gone under contract or agreements so it didn't necessarily disappear into nothing. The reason I suspect this is the continuous I receive keep coming from various brokers after several months.

I can only hope that this statement resonates with the guys that don't yet know better:
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CHEAP FREIGHT, ONLY CHEAP TRUCKS!

You have to take numbers quoted by DAT with a grain of salt. Their numbers rely only on those who report them. That can skew their numbers one way or another. It is good to use DAT or another service as a guideline, but I would not take it to the bank. Freight and rates are down. The economy is soft. My hope is that we are not sliding into another downturn as we did in 2008. According to some pundits, they expect a downturn as severe as the crash of 1929. Time will tell. However, from what I am seeing, the economy is in trouble and that will be reflected in lower rates and less freight. I would not want to have big debt right now.

I would still say that a lot of the freight is going with contracts and various types of agreements between brokers, carriers, shippers, etc. Thus what is available has went down. As far as why the rates go down, I would see that going down with how the fuel costs have went down.

I don't think we are, we're merely returning to what used to be normal. We have all been spoiled by the last year or two, it was a bit of a boom, now that things are returning to more normal levels everyone seems to be in a panic.
