i agree that there are free apps out there but if an app has a feature (POI in this case) but it doesn't work well and pushes one to seek out other apps then, in my book, that is a problem with and within the app.

So I can hope that they put some resources towards improving a feature within their app while I use another app to get the same information that should be in the first App.

Not a problem but it is a deficiency within the App.

And I am not sure that an App that is normally sold for $150 would be considered "cheap"... LOL

I just re read and see you said "cheeper" not "cheap"... My mistake.

But with a RM you are buying hardware too... If they sold just an App for iOS, which I really wish they would, it would not be $400 so it's a bit unfair to compare apples to oranges.

Still, for a $150 App that offers POIs... I think they could do better in both areas of POI data and access and in the general overall User Interface.

But until either happens I will plan to use CoPilot for Truck Routes and probably Truckers Path for POIs

Oh and Truckers Path is working on Truck Routing too... So since the already have a nice UI and maps and trip planning, if they do add Truck Specific Routing then both RM and CoPilot might have another competitor is the Trucking arena.

I tried Delorme back many years ago & despite using it for a year or so, I just wasnt happy with it. So, I bought MS S&T & I used it for probably 15 years. I liked it. As mention, last year they stopped support & left me with no alternative but to go back to Delorme. I didnt like it then & 15 years later, I still dont like it, but, its better than nothing.
I also use Google maps to pin point an address, but I never go to a new place with out calling & confirming an absolute route & location. I also use Yahoo maps occasionally, as well as Truckers path app on my iPhone. Sometimes I get different address's showing different locations but... that direct phone call to shipping/receiving usually gets me there the right way.
Having said all that, once I confirm the correct route & location, I use Delorme Street Atlas 2015 to route it & get me there, although it's twice the pain to use as was MS S&T.

The POIs could be completely removed and I wouldn't know it. As long as I am able to save "Favorite" locations, I am very content with CoPilot. The various free apps I use integrate well with CoPilot.

Yep. That's how I look at it. All I care is that I have guidance. .for everything else. There's an app for that.

Not to mention I'm not buying new hand units also.

As for phone calls. Me no speakie espanol. And those that speak english. Usually have no clue.

One of these days. I'll have a laptop with win10 and included windows map. And give that a whirl using my cell phone as a bluetooth gps receiver.

I have seen you or someone else mention doing that in the past. Can you explain to me how you do that? The tablet I have has a built-in GPS chip but not all tablets have them and it concerns me that my next tablet may not have one, thereby making any mapping feature useless.

You can explain it here, take it to a different thread, or take it to a pm.

it only works from android to windows pc. i haven't been able to make a bluetooth connection yet between 2 android devices. to even try to use one device as a gps transmitter for the other. and it looks like, the app i use is no longer in the play store. gonna have to look for a different app. once i get my bluetooth working with windows 10. i may have to buy new dongles for my computers.

what was an easy task with windows 7. is fighting me with windows 10.

Not seeing the need for concern.

If you need a GPS chip, then make sure the tablet you are looking into has one before you make the purchase.

    Am I missing something?
