I agree with you about customers not knowing how to give us directions to their own place... :biggrin_2552:
And soooo many times, after I tell them, numerous times that I will be coming from the west, they give me directions as if I were coming from the east... or if I say I will be coming from the south, they will give me directions as if I were coming from the north... :biggrin_25523:
Like today... this lady at shipping office... I told her about 3 times I will be on I-78 coming from PA, heading to NJ... and she told me to take an exit that is good ONLY if I come from the east... :biggrin_25521: For heaven's sake... Doesn't she know that PA is to the west of NJ? :biggrin_2552:
Anyway... with the help of Google satellite and some of her directions I was able to figure out a safe route... which is much better than this Co-Pilot we have at Peoplenet...

Yeah... I missed all that... was hitchhiking with truck drivers in Brasil back in the early 80's...
Hey, the no power steering.... I drove some and practiced backing with those no power steering trucks back at CDL school.... trainers told us that was "good" experience... just in case we had to do it in real life... :biggrin_25523:
I remember spending all day under the sun in hot GA summer practicing with those old trucks with no power steering and no A/C while trainers would smile and tell me that would give me some muscle... :biggrin_25523:

Most people only know one route to work and back home. If a road closure happens, they just call in sick because they wouldn't know any other way. It was funny when Georgia renumbered the exits from sequential to mile marker. A lot of people calling in sick after that LOL.

New Mexico Route 9. The alternate route to El Paso from the west.

I'm dropping in Santa Teresa right by the border and this way is 8 miles shorter by way of Deming and Columbus.

the worse that happened to me was 2 am in Oakland
was thinking about changing my stance on weapons
went in 2-3 circles could see the receiver but with construction couldn't get there. had a rookie Prime following me. I finally stopped by a parked cruiser and walked up to him. He rolled the window down about 2 inches and said whats the matter you can't find the drug dealer o_O I said no how am i going to get into blah blah blah with the construction. He LOL said follow me and bring your buddy. He put the lights on went down wrong way thru the construction and there we were

It's interesting how things change in a split of a second in trucking and dispatching...
My Thursday load was given to me yesterday, then cancelled because it would only be ready on Friday, then given back to me cause there was no other driver around to pick up the load and company needs this load...
And now I may pick it up tomorrow but drop it at PA warehouse and go pick up another load in NJ, a relief load for hurricane folks in SC.... There are 4 other trucks on hold in OKC waiting to go to SC too with relief loads... But the relief load from NJ may not be ready tomorrow though... :biggrin_25526::biggrin_2552:
DSP is going nuts trying to coordinate all trucks and get a final response on what it's going to be tomorrow before the 15:00 deadline... which is past now...
    I definitely wouldn't be a dispatcher.... :biggrin_25512:
