My attempt at a windshield star chip repair...
Before:
Because it was bigger than a quarter (just), safelite wouldn't attempt a repair and quoted $250 for a windshield (installed). A good price, but I figured no harm in trying a DIY fix first.
I used the process shown in this video:
I didn't do nearly as good of a job, but my chip was much bigger.
After:
After with road background:
If it doesn't get any worse it'll be fine. If it was in my normal line of sight I would probably find it annoying...
That said, I could do a better job if I had it to do again.
Improvement #1: My chip was big enough I should have done the vacuum step, then refilled the pedestal with more epoxy, and done the vacuum step again.
Improvement #2: I didn't do a good enough job sealing the pedestal to the adhesive disk so when I went to pressure the epoxy to force it through the cracks, some bled out between the pedestal and disk so the epoxy pressure must therefore have been lower than designed.
Inprovement #3: I didn't knock on my glass quite as hard as in the video.
All in all, worth the $12 even if only for entertainment's sake.csmith1281, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, Rocks and 3 others Thank this. -
Most insurance has one or two windshield replacements a year.

Northland doesn't cover windshield replacement. I have all the coverage plus the premium package. I had 2 spots that needed to be fixed. You can go on Safelite web page and type in the details. They wanted more to fix the 2 spots then to replace the windshield.

One more thing if your going flatbed. You need to buy the optional wetness clause. Most cargo insurance does not cover a claim that gets wet unless you have that coverage.
csmith1281, mickcuster, ReeferOhio and 5 others Thank this.
