Wall of Voodoo lyrics ....
....
I wish I was in Tijuana
Eating barbequed iguana
I'd take requests on the telephone
I'm on a wavelength far from home
I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
I dial it in from south of the border
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand just what does he say?
I'm on a mexican radio. I'm on a Mexican, whoa-Oh, radio
I'm on a mexican radio. I'm on a Mexican, whoa-Oh, radio

@Al. Roper, how are you liking being a skateboarder again ?[/QUOTE]Loving it. Other than when I first started and the last couple years, that's pretty much all I've done, other than concrete work.Tall Mike, peterbilt_2005 and TruckDuo Thank this. -

A lot of the shopping centers in Juarez charge 4 wheelers to park. I had to pay $1 to take a whizz.

Thing about truck stops is: there's something to complain about at just about all of them. They cater to the lowest common denominator, and if that's not you, you will be unhappy there.
Once in a while you land in one that sucks a little less and you think you're at the Marriott. Which, by the way, will charge you a fee for parking your car at most locations, in addition to the room rent usually around $200 - 300 a night. The guy that rents notch above scuzzy rooms for $39 a night and parks free thinks that's stupid. Another guy that's in there closing a $100 million service contract doesn't think twice about it, and orders up a $50 room service meal after paying even more to have someone park his car for him. Truth be told, the people that really want convenient parking will pay for it. There's a value offer for everyone. But that's not really the problem.
In my opinion, the burden of parking needs to be on the company that depends on truck service to exist. I will favor a shipper that does offer parking, and charge more for one that doesn't. Some day there will be an analysis of truckload rates that shows places like Costco and Aldi's paying substantially less than others. But I'm not holding my breath for it.
Funny I get on this rant, because I was just discussing it with my smarter half while walking the dog. I'm at the Jeffyville Ohya TA tonight. Got in early enough for a spot on the back row. I back in then walk back to check how much more I can go and not lose a mudflap. Seems the last lodger left a gift. 4 walmart bags of trash piled up, not 50 feet from an empty trash can. One even had some sort of pet training pad or adult diaper or the like hanging out, adding to the appeal. For what it's worth, I picked them up and walked them to the can since it was possible to do so without needing gloves or a shovel, and it was easier than moving the truck to another spot with something else nasty about it. I did use some hand sanitizer of course, knowing the filthy trashy driver that did that, also touched those bags.
She thought shaming might be a deterrent. Put up loud speakers and simulcast on channel 19 every time someone gets spotted tossing trash or pissing on the ground. Then I reminded her that only works for people who's standard of living exceeds a zoo pen or barnyard, where animals eliminate themselves on the ground because aniimals just do that. I thought about just denying service. See someone trashing the lot, kick their whole fleet out. Just shut off their fuel card approvals. I'd probably have the cleanest place with lots of available spaces, but go out of business because there aren't enough drivers that aren't the missing link patronizing my truck stop. Or for that matter, enough carriers that give a #### about tearing up my property because they just don't care.
She argued that maybe charging for parking would attract better, less trashy customers. I doubted that. In fact, I'd venture a guess that someone paying $14 for a space will feel more entitled to strew their poop on the ground, and expect the proprietor to hire someone with that vast windfall to carry their garbage to the can for them.
Oh well, enough speculation on that topic for tonight. I was going to overcome my laziness and cross the street for better food choices. OF course it was pouring rain when I came out of the shower, so much for that. I'll either peruse the Hormel treats I have on board, or maybe just call it a night and wait for cereal in the morning LOL.FatDaddy, Vilhiem, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and 7 others Thank this.
