Andrew, I think you can agree that Walmart bent over backwards to try to make you happy. Bill went way over and beyond, more than most terminal managers ever would. It isn't Walmarts fault that your family decided they didn't want to be in FL after you transferred there.

$80-100K is easy. If you are a real go getter, you can do the $120-130K. You need to make sure to get bigger uniforms, as they feed you all the time. There are always cook-outs for this or that. You are treated with respect, as the professional that you are. As such, and because as a Walmart driver you have a big bullseye on your back (everyone wants to have a lawsuit with Walmart), you are held to a higher standard. You do not get the safety ratings or CSA ratings that Walmart has by not having high standards.

They do not micromanage you. Do your job, and short of getting your paperwork you don't have to deal with anyone unless there is an issue outside of your control. Then they jump on it to try to fix things. You get paid to sleep in your truck, get safety days and safety bonus quarterly (at full ADP), personal days, vacation, 401K with full company match up to 6% etc, etc.

Oh, and the only time you will be asked for phone records is if you have an accident, or are called for a random alcohol test.

Is the job for everyone.................. of course not. However, if you want to be treated with respect with absolute job security, and make good money............. it is a hard one to beat. As most drivers will say, if you haven't worked there, you really don't know. Oh, and yes there are disgruntled drivers. It is human nature. They have forgotten from where they came.

I could handle the uniforms, but to go so far as company issue SOCKS?

    No thank you.

Oh, that is the best line of all.

I will NEVER put my signature on any bird cage liner authorizing ANYONE to access my phone records whenever they feel like it.

NO amount of money is worth that.

Why because there's a line of people a mile long waiting to join and their just getting sick of waiting and decide to go drive somewhere else that's why.

The phone thing alone would kill the deal for me.

Not that I necessarily want to yap on the phone while I'm driving, but I find the idea of my phone records being accessed on a whim without a court issued warrant by anyone other than law enforcement absolutely destestable.

    And why should that matter?

If you see any misinformation here, please feel free to attempt to clear it up.

I'm really glad that a WinCo is going in right across the street from the Wal-Marx here in town. As you said, better prices and they actually treat their employees like they aren't scum of the earth. I've also been a long time fan of Fred Meyer and when I go shopping, I don't care if I'll pay a little bit more at Freddy's because the atmosphere is so much better. My wife can go into the cosmetics section and not get treated like a freakin' criminal and have to enter a "security" area.

I personally have not stepped foot in a Wal-Mart for a very, very long time. I can't stand that place and I feel sorry for the people who have to work for them.

Sure, some people have no ambition/drive to do better for themselves. Been that way for a long time. However, that doesn't mean that god awful companies like Wal Mart should get away with being horrible to their employees. They could foster a work environment which might encourage more of their employees to elevate themselves and move on or, dare I say, move up within the company itself and make a career out of it.

It's the ground level employees who really make a company run. It's just as true in the retail world as it is in say.... the trucking world. Companies who offer good pay, benefits, time off and a good working atmosphere have happier workers. It bleeds off into the experience of the customers of that establishment as well.I can't think of a single time I've ever had a Fred Meyer or Costco employee be rude to me.

So saying its not the employer's fault, but the employee's fault is disingenuous. Employers and employees have a relationship, and like all relationships it takes two to tango.

I've talked to veteran Walmart drivers in the recent past..Walmart is not the glamorous driving job you think it is...upper management has found ways to cut the drivers pay in more ways than one...then delivering to Walmart stores leaves a lot to be desired..I've never seen such a bunch of lazy whiny crybabies as I've seen at the stores..it's night and day between delivering to Costco,Fred Meyers & Walmart/Sam's...the first two treat you very well and are happy to see you as to to the last 2,they could care less about seeing you and don't care how long they hold you up...the old saying goes,"you get what you pay for"...Walmart want cheap wages then they'll get cheap workers who don't give a dang and it shows.
