0415 and I'm out of bed and dressed. Voluntarily. Not a single screaming psychopath in a Smokey Bear hat in sight.

Probably going to show up early to Costco and see if they can take 2 hours to finish me.

Then I can use the 8 hour rule. Otherwise I'll probably be a few minutes late to my first stop.

61 miles to first stop, 0630 appt, 10 hrs up at 0526. Showed a 4 minute pretrip, boogity boogity boogity from T/A Russell down to Bolingbrook, arrival at last exit with three minutes to spare thanks to some 60 in 55 speed zones...then someone in a four wheeler decides to deny me access to the off ramp and everybody and their brother follows suit (I was in the right lane and a minivan used the shoulder to blow past me on the right, followed by a bunch of cars, and I chose not to press the issue).
I was 15 minutes late but nobody seemed to care so whatever.
Next stop is 140 miles away. Appointment set for 0830. I called in and explained that I would be late because they spaced the appointments 2 hours apart and I am in a 60mph truck.
Woo hoo.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
2-1/2 hrs late for stop 2--not bad, considering. Gotta rescue a load in Davenport going to Cedar Falls (Target) then I'm stacked out of there to someplace in Illinois then home.
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
60? Really? Thats gotta suck. How do you get your speed limit raised at Gordon?
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
I would assume you find a job where the company has a higher corporate speed limit.
They pay me well, they treat me well, and it's their truck, so if they want their truck driven at 60, no skin off my teeth. After all, I joined them, they didn't join me.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
FWIW, my company governs our trucks between 67-70 depending on what truck I drive.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
I gotta admit it was an adjustment coming out of a 68mph truck into the 60mph unit. I kept worrying about the trailer doors getting damaged from a bird strike.
I'm used to it now, and there are up sides--you're never caught in a gaggle or elephant race, the drive is a little more relaxing, and it makes a better trip planner out of you since you're not going to make it up in the fast lane later. You have to work more to get in a full day, true, but it works for me. I make decent money and have a great benefits package.
Still, I admit there are times I wish I had just five more mph... I'm as human as the next man....Dominick253 Thanks this.
