My instructor is a nice guy. But when I tell him that I am confused by something, he tells me I need to be able to figure it out and doesnt give any explanation. Everytime I made a mistake he kept getting tense and laying more pressure on me to do the right thing. After a while it wore on me and I started forgetting everything. Rather than stopping the vehicle and giving me a minute to regroup, he continued the trip. I was so nervous and making every mistake in the book. Now I feel so down on myself.
Did anyone else have a really horrible first day to the point that you thought I can't do this? But then after a few days felt much better?
Id love to hear your stories, it might help me.
Thanks
Sad Sam

No... It really doesn't get any better.
Just imagine him getting rail roaded by a group of angry sea turtles. Make ya laugh, so you can tune him out and focus on your objectivemamaclutcheasy and Badmon Thank this. -
Sure doesn't sound like much of a teacher. Maybe he's trying to thin the herd. Maybe he's just an A-ho.
goin2fast10 and Puppage Thank this. -
Its not you, its your trainer. There is a lot to learn out here, and day 1 is overwhelming. If the "figure it out, son" continues, get a new trainer.

Your trainer sucks, I bet he ain't been driving long and is in the know it all stage.
Good luck, just try to learn all you can and count the days until you're on your own.
Don't worry too much about learning to back up now, I think it's easier to learn on your own, in a big, not crowded truck stop.Straight Stacks, GeekFink and mountaingote Thank this. -
It's your first day of course you're gonna be confused, make mistakes and have tons of questions it's only natural. I know you're excited but don't get ahead of yourself too much. Even if he answers all your questions it probably won't register anyhow. There's a load to be delivered so he's not gonna stop the truck for you to "regroup". Just keep your head down watch what he does and take notes. It's ok to ask questions but don't get too ahead of yourself.

Geek and tucker have it right. If the guy doesn't have the patience to help you learn, he shouldn't be training. Sounds like his motivation is the Almighty Dollar.
