Hi there,
anyone out there remember their first day learning on the trucks having no previous driving experience???
I felt like a joke. My self esteem is really low.
I was having so much trouble moving my gear shift to the right place. And let me tell you frankly im not a dancer so my coordination was way off. I was kangarooing and riding the clutch and doing everything wrong you could imagine.
When it came to backing up this is normally not a problem for me but I was so scared that I wouldnt push the clutch and brake fast enough that I couldn't focus on the actual act of backing up.
I felt like a complete tool.
Everyone at the driving school said this is normal, the first few drives are incredibly stressful, and you WILL suck.
How was everyone elses experience??? (talking to people with no previous driving experience before taking the course)

Thanks for the honesty. I am sure all the pros here had similar feelings. Hang in there, man. Everything worth doing takes sacrifice and effort. You can do this.

I remember the smart ones that jumped to answer every question and talked the talk, the people that seemed so smart,
Well, I remember that feeling of passing the road test on my first try and waving at the smart people who failed and had to retake it the next day.
I sucked the first week or two too. Good lucktruckersamuel and mountaingote Thank this. -

Nobody can be expected to know how to do ANYTHING unfamiliar on the first day. It will get better with practice, and I'd be willing to bet you'll be better tomorrow. Nothing to hang your head about. I still remember my first day in 1977....I would have sworn there weren't any gears in either one of those gearboxes, cuz I sure as hell couldn't find em

Reminds me of a kid I was in the truck with on my first day. I don't think he made it over 20 mph he was having such trouble shifting.
I was in the back with my jaw on the floor as the instructor was practically ripping this kids head off lol
gears in big trucks are like dogs, they can sense fear. Shift like you mean it and be relaxed, everyone here had a first day.bamamac, Lightside, morpheus and 1 other person Thank this.
