I am not a natural truck driver. Not anywhere close to it. It is actually the first thing in my life that I was not good at from the very first day.
The thing about shifting that you need to know is that you do know how to shift and you have known how to your entire life. Ask any kid to make the sounds a truck or race car makes and he will remind you how to shift. You shift by EAR. The sounds of a motor winding up let you know it is time to shift. Listen to the music of the engine.

Takes practice. It's not like you're publicly speaking to a room of good looking broads. It's driving.

I had a similar experience you will get it in time. my clutch foot was shaking with nerves the first few days. they thought I had Parkinson's.

A guy in my CDL class was churning so much butter trying to shift gears, I was sure the only job offer he would get would be from Land O Lakes!!! Lol

One of my favorite experiences going through School was one day when one of my fellow students, now working for Gully, was driving. We saw a beautiful Blonde gal whose car was stalled in traffic. The instructor and I jumped out to assist. We pushed her car out of the way. Traffic was heavy and the student driver decided he should keep the truck moving. We ran after him and everytime we got close he drove on. 3 miles. No instructor in the cab. Just him and me chasing.
I did get the blondes number so it has a happy ending.tucker Thanks this. -
Did you end up having two happy endings?

Hey Everyone.
Just an update.
My shifting is coming along as well as a lot of little details I wasn't able to focus on before. Just got to work on backing up, shifting when making right hand turns, and occasionally I get lost in the sequence but I have to say Im feeling much more optimistic now. I will do my road test by the end of this week! Wish me luck!tucker Thanks this.
