run quality steer tires.
drives and trailers i mostly run Chinese virgins. not all even of the Chinese tires are created equal. iv run some that were a total waste of money and wore so quick i might as well bought half worn used tires and others that have done me pretty well. -
I would never put cheap tires on the steer axle, but I think that Michelin is pricing themselves out of the market for most people. I have ran a Chinese tire on a step deck before, they did as good as any of the big names, 255's and they were Dynatrac's.
dog-c Thanks this. -
Never been a fan of Michelin products.
Yokohama H rated on the tractor.
Bridgestone ecopia came stock on my trailer and they're wearing fantastically despite the abuse I give them.
I've ran double coin and good-ryde (?) for trailer tires in the past but they were only fair. -
Driver.
You are getting sound advice.
Your steer tires are your main contact with the road in the front with a diese motor between.
If money is tight save up. Don't trust it, you said it your self. The guy had to put a ton of weights to balance the tire. That's a dead give away.
I've had a Michelin $499. Steer become a grenade and blow. So what we are saying is.
Steers better be the best your money can buy. As well as quality.
Just be smart on your choice. I'd rather not be rolling up on your truck in the ditch from a bad purchased steer tire.Derailed and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
peterbilt_2005 Thanks this.

Steer tires are your life.
It amazes me how people will risk that over a couple hundred bucks spread out over 100+K miles.
Even on the drives and trailer, cheap initial price on Chinese crap isn't a savings in the big picture....It ends up costing more.
Shortest overall life + highest rolling resistance , much higher potential for very expensive repairs caused by blowout, not to mention increased long term wear on equipment from poor balancing characteristics.dog-c Thanks this. -
Hankook makes a great tire,at least in the auto market.
Any of you running them?
They arent bottom dollar tire..and dont think their from china either..loldirthaller Thanks this. -
I would rather run a casing that's 10 years old and been capped 5 times before I would run a Longmarch brand tire. The sidewalls start cracking at about 3 months and start splitting around 6 months. They shouldn't be DOT legal IMO. The only virgin tire that I ever had the tread come off, was a Yokohama. That was on a steerable axle on a 4 axle trailer. I think the Yokohama incident might have been a fluke as both of them came apart within months of each other, but THOSE......2 brands.....I will never buy again.
