I do my job, leave my electronics alone. My record reflects that and has since 93 when I started driving a truck. No need to prove myself to anyone through a camera. Knowing the outcome of using electronics and having a disaster, do you really think some nimrod making $45k/yr for 70 hours a week working for one of these megas is going to be any more responsible being watched? Like I have always said, you get what you pay for. Make it a desirable job where your compensated well for you actions, responsibilities, loss of normal social life, etc and it will start to attract better caliber drivers. No reason whatsoever the average OTR company driver should be making any less than $100k/yr out here. Until then, all the cameras are going to do is show the guys face expression when the crash happens.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with your statement, but if your completely happy with your company your driving for, making the kind of money you want, mileage/down time, ETC ETC, would you quit if they said they are going to install a camera? if what you say is correct, I don;t see the issue

    I DID EXACTLY THAT..QUIT

cameras being installed in trucks ( not mine)..and sleep studies done in house..also not me as I wasn't required to do one. Note that neither of these things they were affecting me .

I was there almost 5 years (Crete)..I don't care what it pays..me staying makes me part of the problem ( Sheep Syndrome )..I can't be bought.

I was in the reserves back when our current President was going to take office at the age of 41..I refused to work under his time in office, I returned the 20k bonus I received from a year earlier and no longer drilled.
I was a non obligor as I had previous active duty 85-94..I stand firm on my beliefs and money isn't going to change that..
What I lost was not only my reenlistment bonus of 20k but my retirement income I would have received after 20 yrs service after completing just over 9 more years in the reserves at retirement age.

I am steadfast on my decisions and financially castrated my military retirement.
We are regulated enough out here already..I will always have a job, I have other skill sets a strong work ethic and determination/discipline.
I chose this line of work, life won't stop if I leave this occupation.
I have said it to other employers and I will repeat it here.

You don't pay me enough to make this my number one priority in life.

The funny thing is there is no amount they could have paid me to make a job my #1 priority in life and some of these companies actually gave me a raise...I find that in itself laughable

Give them an inch they will take a mile.

What I don't get is most of "these" companies hire the not so good drivers but want to catch them on camera when they can just go to a truckstop and catch them.

I'd seriously hope nobody is doing that, but even more, would hope if they did, any driver would have the stones to quit immediately

Absolutely I would quit quicker then they could install the camera... If the companies would put as much effort into there selection process of hiring drivers in the first place then they would not need to go to cameras. But because the Mega Fleets have basically made there companies into Welfare centers and have little concern or idea of who they are putting in a drivers seat they use the cameras as another way to dismiss fire or get rid of people after they have raked in millions of dollars in government funding for schools tuition reimbursement orientation fleece leasing company owned cdl schools etc etc. The actual hauling of goods for many of these companies is the least profitable part of there businesses. So yes I would quit which is a choice. And maybe just maybe the carriers should start giving the drivers that choice.. Driver would you mind if we put a camera in your truck?? Let the driver decide.. How much of a drivers life is the carrier allowed to control?? When is enough enough??
