Just for the record, as a company fuel hauler for one of the truck stop companies, there is nothing different between the fuel at the different truckstops. We all load at the same places and beside each other. It is all unbranded fuel with general additives. The bio-diesel is added if available. If not available, then clear diesel is taken to the truck stop.
Percentages of bio to diesel are determined by each state. In Tennessee for example, the percentage was at 5% for the last few years. It has recently been increased to up to 20%. Kentucky has been at 20% for a while now. The truck stops buying the diesel get governmental kick backs on how much bio they mix with their diesel so they want as much bio as legally available for the subsidies.
The ability for a truck to get a different mpg is not based on the name of the truck stop for reasons listed above. It could be because of less bio because the driver didn't mix it and there is more clear at a particular truck stop.
Better mpg is NOT because of what name is beside a particular store. You may choose to think one truck stop has superior fuel to another, but the truth is that other factors are causing the mpg increase. It is no different than choosing one farmer's turnip over another's.
If you have a branded name, (IE: Shell, Exxon, Citgo, Marathon), then yes there are specific additives that are particular to those brands that are variables. The particular truck stops mentioned in other posts all use the same generic diesel with or without bio added.
If one diesel is more or less brown than another due to more bio, then it is because of the circumstances of the delivery drivers at that particular moment in time. It is not because that truck stop company has superior diesel.Opus, gentleroger, Pork Chop Express and 6 others Thank this. -
As an ex fuel hauler that dropped into every major truck stop chain and the small mom & pop outfits, you're wrong. Just because you work for them don't believe everything they tell you.
Just because you're loading at the same rack, doesn't mean its blended the same. The guy next to you in the booth might be loading a 10/20 #1/#2 5% bio while your loading #2 20% bio.
I know of one chain that uses zero bio while the place across the street is 20%. Guess where I choose to buy my fuel.
And the brown stuff is animal fat bio, green or yellow comes from plants. Vegetable based bio is fine I'll run it any time. Animal bio is dirty stuff that turns into sludge when the temperature drops while the vegetable will be fine as long as its additized properly.gentleroger, scythe08, HalpinUout and 3 others Thank this. -
I've also done fuel hauling and I will say that all the diesel is unbranded diesel and there is no difference in the locations contrary to what many of you think... They come from the same racks the same plants
Pork Chop Express and bigcove Thank this. -
The fuel at the Pilot is superior to the fuel from the flying j across the street.
stevep1977, scythe08 and bigcove Thank this. -
It is really no hair off of my behind if you want to just flat out say I'm wrong. I was just trying to provide information. If a reader chooses to believe me, they can. If not, they can believe what they want.
In our market there is only one rack that provides bio/diesel pre-mixed, and that's at 5 %, the rest is no. 2 clear diesel fuel. We mix the bio into the diesel by loading on top of the diesel in each compartment on the truck. It is growing now to where it is mixed at the stores with a tank devoted to bio at our stores with a junge system. Our bio in this market is animal based. I was also referring to "brown" diesel based off of another post, not from you.
Just because you may have worked at a common carrier that may have dropped at "some truck stops," that doesn't mean you know the inside scoop of the dedicated truck stop carriers. It doesn't mean you don't either. See, I can give you the benefit of a doubt for your market when you do not afford the same courtesy to someone you are ready to just prove wrong.
Continue to crush your poles. It's not the first time I've seen you try to just tell a poster that they are wrong and impart your wisdom to the contrary.
That's why I do more reading than posting, because it is a waste of my time to go back and forth in a tit-for-tat with someone that wants to prove everyone else wrong.
Go ahead and call me out as lying about even hauling fuel just because it's not your experience. I could really give a rat's dirty side.
Sorry for interrupting your journal, Fat Daddy, carry on, I'll just keep my wrong information to myself from now on.Last edited: Nov 10, 2015
