Just got off the phone with the guy that sold me this truck, told him i was wanting to trade for a cummins, he asked why, told him truck to expensive to maintain, he said really! haven't heard that. The new maxxforce is a lot better he says, i don't want a maxxforce, i want a cummins. He tells me a company in Atlanta just switched from cummins to maxxforce, i said sorry 2hear that. Feeling my frustration he agreed to find a truck of my needs, Cummins or Detroit!

I drive a 2012 Pro-Star / Maxxforce and it's back in the shop for this same problem. The dealer had it for two weeks and now three weeks later it's right back to where it was....white smoke, constant parked regens, derating, etc. This is a lease truck and has been a garage queen from day one. I have no faith in the dealer or the engine at this point....the past 50k miles have been nothing but trouble. BTW mileage is 430,000.

White smoke is usually from a bad DOC, or one that is simply worn out. With a bad DOC the regen will never reach proper temps to bake off the collected soot and you will have constant regen problems. I really don't think DOCs last much beyond 7000-8000 hours without being degraded enough and cause these on-going problems.

It smokes under a hard pull after being in a light load condition....like gearing down and rolling through the toll booth or backing off in traffic and accelerating. Drivers behind me state they smell fuel and the smoke looks "heavy". I've noticed the sub-lease trucks I drive while mine is down seem much more responsive and smoother for being spec'd identical. I'll keep you updated on what they find....could be another two weeks though!

Could be many things but typically the DOC starts to lose its efficiency and has a hard time creating heat and so the fuel that is injected by the aftertreatment injector gets soaked into the DPF which creates the smoke and is more prevalent under load like you mentioned. The engine is sluggish because the exhaust is restricted since the DPF is plugging. Other things to cause sluggish performance and other regen issues is sticking back pressure valves and wastegate actuators.

I came here to post this. Yes! My company has crapforce 13 engines and the EGR valve is the first thing that gets checked when the truck either refuses to do passive regens or...the truck is constantly needing to regen.

How in the hell does this hp turbo come off! Are there 5 or 6 bolts on the hot side of turbo, and why did they put a stud on the bottom right on top of lp turbo, cant get socket or wrench on nut, had to fabricate 15mm wrench to get it 3/4 of the way off before it starts to hit lp turbo housing!

Its a MaxxForce half the motor has to come apart to do ANYTHING. I personally never changed it as my was still in warranty. And once it was fixed it was traded the next day lol.

Just call the dealer, most are more then happy to explain what needs to be removed first. Done that a few times on my Cummins.
