Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

What did you break? I hope after all this time they got you rolling.

 

Boy do I dislike getting home during the week. My wife and I much prefer me being home over the weekend. But, with the holidays coming up, scheduling this time of year gets a little tricky. I'll be home for Thanksgiving, Abilene will see to it, same with Christmas. New Years is a take it or leave it holiday for us.

I'm still liking this job. It's trucking, but for me a pretty good gig. The honeymoon phase? That ended about 34 years ago. Now it's solely what makes John happy. I was gone the most since I've been here this last go around, 1 day shy of 3 weeks. The redeeming factor? I worked and averaged 3100 miles per week while gone, didn't layover and worked off my recap the last 2 weeks. I put in for my home time and had to push it back by 5 days, because I was given a long run and if anyone knows me, knows that I don't give them up for anything. I took it, and then on this past Friday, a preplan came through with my load home.

I'm taking 9 days off in February for two important occasions, my 60th birthday on the 13th, and my 19th wedding anniversary on the 14th. My wife and I are going on a cruise to celebrate. My 3 weeks vacation isn't until April, that's being saved for Europe in September.
Right now I'm just enjoying myself here, and counting down the days until I hang up my truck driving sneakers and put my real estate license to good use and go sell real estate part time with my wife.

 

Called into Kimberley this morning to let her know I'll be ready to go first thing in the morning. She told me she would have me a load assignment this afternoon, time to go play the rest of the day.
