This is what is known as a pocket roadtrain because it isn't as long as a full size outback roadtrain. They are used for hauling grain in rural areas. Previously only B trains were allowed but more and more routes are being opened up for these type of A trains. They have the same capacity as 2 full size semi trailers.

I'm not real clear on the terminology, so correct me if I'm wrong. B-train is one smaller trailer plus one full sized trailer, while A-train is 2 or more full sized trailers?
Also, why do all the Aussie rigs have the breather intakes set way up high? Is it to keep dust out of the air filters?
Keep the pics coming, this is a great thread. -

The intakes are up high partly to keep out dust, they're away from engine heat (our engines are always working hard because of the weights we haul) and they look cool.albert l Thanks this. -
I'm there where can I find an application?

This is a brand new tri-drive A-B Double at the Perth, Western Australia 2015 Truck Show. It is a B train towing a trailer with a converter dolly. It is one of a fleet used for hauling bulk ammonium nitrate to the mines in the north west.
This combination can go right into the Perth industrial area.
If they want to, they can add yet another trailer and dolly once they get to the 53.5 metre road train route, but as far as I know they aren't doing that at the moment.

I came across this video by one of our truck mags where they road test a new Kenworth T909 hauling triples. Not a bad indication of what goes on over here.
7-UP, glitterglue, Straight Stacks and 2 others Thank this. -
