I have a buddy that does lyft & uber in louisville.

He does lyft as a main steady income and when rates shoot up for events he does uber. Lyft has higher entrance requirements and uber makes you buy a special phone essentially an eobr.

He claims to have made $182 taking someone to the airport one time after a lady gaga concert. Took 25 minutes.

Uber is saturated with part timers but if you can hit it at the right time cha-ching.
Lyft he says he made around $50 an hour before expenses.
    Not too bad.

Oh he's also been robbed like 10 times
    Including the vehicle once.... XD

    Got it back though!!!

I've been driving on the weekends on the occasional evening for both Uber and Lyft since about Sept., it's a good way to make some extra money, interact with different people.

Since you set your own hours with Lyft and Uber, it's hard to fall asleep. On week nights, I'll typically log in for 2 or 3 hours, on Fridays I usually sign in about 4pm and go until Midnight or 2am, if I have to work on Sat., then I only go until 10 pm. On Sat. nights, I usually sign in between 3 and 4 pm and go until 2 or 3 am. If I get tired I sign out early and work on Sunday mornings.

What credentials? Oh you mean they paid for a taxi medallion and use borderline thug tactics to maintain a stranglehold, while driving 10 to 15 yr old rattle traps? To drive for Uber or Lyft, at least in Denver, you have to pass a vehicle inspection annually (which BTW, they fail cars for cracked windshields, when was the last time you were OOS'd for a cracked windshield on the semi), you also have to have a CDL physical (in my case I gave them a copy of my long and short form). BTW, in S.F., where both services started, they are seeing a resurgence in taxi drivers. That said, I've had cabbie try to force me off the road when they see the Uber and Lyft stickers in my windshield, on Halloween night, we had a problem with Denver cops playing enforcer for the cab companies at a special taxi stand they setup. Keep this in mind, from downtown Denver to the airport is $55+tip for a cab, with Uber and Lyft, it's $33 to $38+tip. I have a friend who used to drive a cab, his first cab was 2004 Crown Vic with 340K on it, and an exhaust leak coming to the vehicle. He complained multiple times, it wasn't until an inspection by the state found it and shut him down. His next cab was a 2011 Prius, that was great as long as there wasn't more than 3" of snow on the ground, if he had more than 300 lbs of passengers and luggage in the bag he could do burnouts on dry pavement and get stuck on snow/ice.

Depends on the vehicle you use. I have a 2015 Nissan Frontier, which I regularly get compliments about how unusual it is to see being used for this. I burn a tank of gas per night, typically about $28.00. Depending on the night, yes, after expenses you might only make $10/hr, or you might make $50/hr.

Herein lies the issue with the claims of Uber and Lyft. In the Denver area, they claim $800 for working 40 hrs, baloney. You would have to be running your ### off. My best week was the first week I drove for both services, I did made $400. Typically for about 30 hrs I week, I'm doing $300 to $350. I know guys who are doing $800, but they are driving hours that are more illegal than we would ever run. The max you can be logged in is 12 hrs. Based on what I've seen, to make $800/week, you would have run 12hr days every day. Now, with the holiday season approaching, the money might ratchet up more. Granted, when Surge pricing is in effect, you can make more money, but, they also make more in fees off that run as well. The fees charged, would make a load broker salivate. One recent night, before fees, I did $142 with Uber, after fees, I netted $108.00. Think about that, there is a reason why they are a $50 billion company. The other issue is saturation, in the Denver/Boulder/Ft. Collins/Colorado Springs/Mountain areas, I guestimate there are 400 Lyft drivers. At the recent vehicle inspection event, I showed up at Noon, it started at 10 am, I counted 200 cars awaiting inspection. That can make it difficult to make money, although, in my area, and I'm sure in some other areas, you can jump around if needed. There are nights where if money sucks in Denver, I'll go to Boulder and deal with the college kids. A lot of $5.00 to $8.00 2 mile rides, did $75 in 90 minutes one night.

Also, I didn't pull the other post, but I use one cell phone for both Uber and Lyft, the biggest issue is the multi-tasking between both apps. If you use a phone supplied by Uber, you pay a rental fee for that phone, so it's not worth it.

I've been screwed by Taxis on many occasions. Once I called for a taxi and they never showed up (after confirmation) and another time they were 3 hours past expected time. Uber is dependable and fast.

You have to pass a DOT physical to drive for Uber in Colorado? Also there is no hours of services for vehicles under 10k lbs. You could drive 18 hours a day/7 days a week and it's perfectly legal.
