One of the funny things I remember from my visit: watching American TV shows, dubbed in Spanish, with Portuguese subtitles. Plus, even with my limited vocabulary, even I could tell the translations were bad. They especially softened up the profanity in some of the more R-rated programs. Funny to see that in a place where it's obvious the TV audience isn't as sensitive to racy programming as the USA.

Speaking of Brazilian TV, there was a program on HBO that aired a couple years ago called Preamar ("High Tide" for you gringos) that was pretty decent, set in Rio. I think Comcast still has it on demand, unaware if any online services have it. Kind of disappointing that it only ran one season. If anyone else reading this is interested to see a glimpse of how things are in Rio, this program is a fair representation. Obviously it's a TV show so embellished and filtered a bit to work with the story, but not too far out.

Another series on HBO I need to get back to is Mandrake. I watched the first 2-3 episodes then got distracted by another favorite and never got back to it. Also set in Rio, more of a crime/detective drama.

Both series are filmed in Portuguese, so English subtitles if you need them.

Yes, I watch way too much TV LOL. I lose track of what programs I'm following. Then on a whim I remember and discover a whole season or more that I missed and end up binge watching.

I just did a Google search for "mail scanning service" and there were plenty of them. From the looks of it, they don't charge much more than you'd pay for a regular mail box to do the collection and scan only envelopes. What gets your rates up is additional services. Like how much you have them open and scan each page. Or forward to another address like your company terminal for example, where it would be more convenient to pick up something you needed in hand versus a scan. Seemed there was charges for storage as well, in case you got packages or wanted to hold some pieces for a local pickup.

Now that I think of it, I recall some of my peers at Siemens who worked international assignments used those services too. They'd be out of the country for months at a time. So, very convenient and private to have their regular mail handled by a service while away.

They might if they were allowed to shut down during the ice storms.

I don't wish anyone ill will, but seeing FedWrecks or UPS doubles in the ditch usually means it's time to slow down. Sort of the canary in the mine for icy road conditions.

Me neither, especially when the amount of digits in the price tag varies in direct proportion with the length of said battle.

Don't you dare make a Fedex linehaul load late. They'd rather see a driver kill himself trying to get back than shut down for conditions.

But then the terminal manager wouldn't get to hand him his write-up for being late. :biggrin_2552:

On top of that your ageing really well. The man looks 30 years old but he's really in his 50s.
