Thanks for all this information Mark, It's it's great to hear it from someone who works with this brand of GPS.
Wallmart had a bunch of Scandisk cards, but I didn't know if that was a good brand or not at the time. I know Kingston and Corsair are huge names in the computer world, but I didn't know how they stood regarding SD cards. I'll return this SD card.
Ok, so I guess as long as it doesn't say Ultra or Ultra Plus, it should be ok? By the way, does Rand M give their customers an option to re install and old map in the event that something didn't work out with the new map?
If you communicate with them, one suggestion. I don't drive anywhere else out of state. It would be nice if Rand M allowed people to download smaller maps on a state by state bases. So for example, one could just download the map for the state they're in and then wouldn't need extra memory.

If you copy your old maps off the unit first and save them then, yes you could go back to the older maps. You would need to copy the Navi and RM folder also as the new maps require a new version and the new version will not work with the old maps.
Downloading by states is not possible as the maps are divided into regions. A region may not have an entire state.
Thanks,

Ok Mark, here is what annoys me about company's like Rand McNally.
You told me there are issues with new Ultra fast cards. I have to believe you because you've tested this. Contrary to what you said, here is what Rand Mc said:
"Thank you for taking the time to contact Rand McNally Support,
We do apologize for the inconvenience with choosing a micro sd card. We normally recommend that you purchase an sd card that is between 8-16gb of memory. We have been notified that micro sd cards with larger memories tend to cause problems. Also there is no suggested brand of sd card, any brand should be fine.
Please feel free to reply to this message or call us if you have any additional questions.
Dear Valued Customer,
The following ticket has been closed, but if you feel it is not resolved, replying to this email will reopen it."
And I even sent them the link to this thread. So essentially they are saying that any brand should work. Yet I never mentioned anything about brands, I was asking them about the type of cards supported. This support people are just stupid because they can't even respond to a consumer with an intelligent answer.
By the way Mark, would you happen to know where the the Navi and RM folders are located specifically on windows 7? The actual paths? in the RandMcNally RND dock folder, I have an RMBackups and RMBin folder, but nothing in the bin folder.

I tested with a normal 8/16gb, a 16gb Ultra, and 32gb Ultra Plus. The Ultra/Ultra Plus showed MD5 errors on the Map files against an original MD5 that is a standard.
A common 8gb or 16gb SD Card will work.
Thanks,

Ok, Thanks Mark

Just look for a 8gb or 16gb SD Card, class 10 (it will show a 10 on the card), anything with Ultra in it shy away from. Most of your 32gb's will be Ultra Plus. If you are not sure if it is an Ultra, the class of the card will be inside a "U" on the card. The "U" meaning Ultra.
Transcend, Scandisk, Kingston are some of the ones I have used or users have used with no issues.
I understand your frustration, but you are making a mountain out of this molehill.

Thanks in advance!

The 520/720 hardware will not read the Ultra Cards. The Ultra Cards write data differently.
Chances are the Dock is not seeing the Ultra Card.
Get a 8gb or 16gb that has a "C" around the class. The "class" will be a 4,6,8, or 10. The higher the class the faster the read/write. If the "class" has an "U" around it, do not get this card.
Thanks,
