needed an invertor for that one. that's why when i changed companies, i had to get the 12 volt one. that machine took 700 watts.

Try camping stores for non inverter solutions, lots of cig lighter powered gear for weekend campers

I bought one from the truck stop, one like in the home with a pot that plugs into a ciggeret plug.

You should be able to get a 300-w inverter and a coffee-maker to go with it. For me, this is a deal breaker. I can go without a lot of things on a truck, but coffee isn't one of them and #### if I'm gonna stop every time I want another cuppa.

First rule of great coffee is great water. One prime reason why truck stop coffee is often so bad is because they're using tap water. Depending where they are the water tastes good or bad. The coffee follows. For this reason I only use spring water.
Second rule is DON'T OVER ROAST THE BEANS! For this reason I avoid Starbucks at all costs. Over roasting releases more acids and the compounds that are unhealthy. I use Seattle's Best Coffee brand #3 medium roast, stocked at most Walmart's.
Get a French coffee press and some #4 filters. Normally with a French coffee press you don't use a filter, but the filter will help remove the acids and you can use a normal drip grind, rather than the more course press grind. You'll get a lot more flavor with the finer grind.
To make hot water I used the microwave in the truck stop. However, a few months ago after reading a few articles about it, I started cold brewing my coffee in the press. Just let it set anywhere from a couple of hours to overnight in the cooler or fridge. This releases NO acids or unhealthy compounds and makes a GREAT cup.
Clean up by pouring the grounds in a toilet and rinse and wipe the press, or if parked away from facilities use a few paper towels to wipe it into your trash bag.Grijon, Cjayn, MidWest_MacDaddy and 2 others Thank this. -
I just bought a coffee pot to heat water and a french press to make it. I have an inverter, so the coffee pot wasn't an issue. I have used the 12v coffee pot they sell at truck stops and it takes a while to make a cup of coffee. I got tired of dropping 2 dollars a cup. 15 cups of coffee I will break even make that 17 for the coffee grounds too.

Tried one of those coffee presses awhile back. Not impressed. Sold it to some lady in Seattle. Lol

Here is an option that is cheap and is less than 200 watts.
Google or eBay search Portable 12V Car Immersion Heater. These connect to cigarette lighter and heat cups of water for instant coffee (or noodles, oatmeal, instant soup, etc). Cost is less than $5.00, and that includes shipping from China.
120 watts
It almost goes without saying, but I'd never leave this unattended.Last edited: Dec 2, 2015
