TA Terrell.
Our turnover isn't drivers. Drivers come and stay. I'd hate to see the turnover number for dispatch though lol every week or 2 there's another new girl on the phone and you know you're going to have to explain how things work in the real world to some degree.
Got one today. Didn't recognize the number but knew it was a new girl. I'm about 2hrs out from drop. Wants to know if I can get out of mesquite over to Grand Prairie, live load at casestack and make it to Brookhaven by tomorrow.
Brookhaven by tomorrow no problem but live load today? Uh.....no lol 2:21 / 3:39 on the clock when I arrive in mesquite at 1530. Not going to happen. To which she says........
"Well it's only 25 miles I'm showing you should take 25 minutes to get there. You've got plenty of time"
Ugh. Sigh. Face palm. Another big sigh lol
Not happening. To which she says......
"Why not? Is that a place with bad traffic?"
All I can do is laugh. Besides being the dfw area at that time of day, casestack is notorious for taking hours to live load.
After explaining the lay of the land, lack of available parking in the area and the facts of life to her, I tell her to call the shipper and find out if they can get me in, loaded and out complete in 1.5hrs. Otherwise I'll be out of time and make sure they clearly understand if they run me out of time in the dock I will not in any way move my truck for 10hrs after I close the doors on the load. She said she'd call them and get back to me.
20 minutes later I get a load cancellation hehehe
We say that rule #1 working here is to manage them before they can manage you whenever and wherever possible.
Got another water run out of Hawkins to new Albany for tomorrow instead.
I hate Peoplenet, where are you parked and recipes thread

I've read posts on here from driver's wives asking what their man wants when he gets home. Many responses lean towards "I want time to myself to get away from the truck". There's no excuse for not making her feel special. She knows I've been running hard. She knows how little sleep I've been getting. She knows I want to shower and collapse on the bed. But when I walk in with that bag she knows nothing else matters to me. The effort pays off. Don't take them for granted because of what you want since you've been gone.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll catch you guys 100 pages from now. Have a safe night.

Making her feel that way every day even though you aren't there goes even further than having to walk in the door bearing gifts.
Sometimes the simplest things are the most effective. Constant contact and a call or two to begin and end the day no matter how tired you are puts in the forefront of her mind that she's in yours.
She's finally accepted the fact that I have to work my way towards her when I come in the door though. The only thing we can't control is the dogs beating her to the door to greet me first lolMACK E-6, Picture.Taker, horsecrazychic22 and 10 others Thank this. -
