Stories from a Stagecoach (Part 3)
Okay....so the rain stopped and I was able to drive to Atlanta. I passed out until the next morning when I got up and looked through the phone book for a place that could replace my windshield. I called them up and they told me they could get it done that day and gave me their address. It was something something 'Peachtree Street'. Now, this is long before smart phones or gps systems, and when I got out my trusty map I discovered there were over 50 streets with variations of 'Peachtree'. It took me over two hours of driving around in Atlanta (with a giant hole in my windshield) before I finally found the shop. I grabbed a cab and went back to the hotel until they called me to tell me it was ready. After I got back and paid for it I inspected the job and it looked okay so I jumped in and pulled out heading down the hill to the T intersection at the bottom of the street. You know how when you come to a stop and you slowly decrease your speed and no matter how hard you try there is almost always that little jerk at the very end when you finally come to a complete stop? Well....when that little jerk happened the windshield proceeded to fall out on the street. Just leaned out in slow motion and 'WHAM'. I had to get out, put it in one of the bays you see in my avatar and head back to the shop. I parked and went in and asked the guy if he saw anything wrong with this picture and he said "Nope, it looks great! It's so clean you can't even tell it's there!".Imagine that! I drug him out there and put my hand through the opening and he said "Oh...that's a problem!" No kidding! He had to order a windshield from about 100 miles away but I sat there, waited for it, watched them put it in, and made sure it wasn't going to fall out on the ground this time. Thus ending the saga of the owl through the windshield, but just before the story of the 'End of tour' party that Metallica had planned for that weekend. More to come on that later.
