Yah! Today I ran six miles of very greasy mud tracks. It took concentration to keep it between the ditches and bogs. Now I've got a thick layer of mud on the truck, winches, straps, clothes, and dunnage. I'm happy.

See that's where dispatch gets you. When you are New,you tend to look up to dispatchers and want to make them "Proud of you" Attaboy the ole Pat on the back and fishy handshake. After a few years you Realize " hey this guy doesn't give a rats ... about me. He''s at home drinking beer and watching the Simpsons. Yes,while you're risking life and limb to get that load of toilet paper delivered to the Costco on time on a snowy mountain pass, throwing chains. He's in a warm house eating a chili dog.Don't worry about "letting down" your Dispatcher. Most have never even looked inside of a truck. If you can't keep it on the road,it's time to Shut It Down. You'll get a chance to drive again. Probably the next day.JMOTripleSix and HalpinUout Thank this.

There laws in place now that your company is aware of about coercion. If you are intimidated, threatened to do a job your not safe doing, (they are liable). If they fire you or threaten to fire you, they are breaking the law. They are as liable as you for your conduct and actions in your duties. If you feel unsafe to continue, express it and stand behind it. It could be someone else's life you save.

some folks see a snowflake and freak out. It's those that make this such a touchy subject.

Best advice is watch the heavy haul, flatbed guys. If you see us parked, take the hint park as well.
No load is worth your life, I have yet to see someone haul hearts in a semi.
Nothing in a truck has to be their yesterday.
Always lean to the side of caution.
"When you don't feel safe, don't drive"
After you get some years under your belt, as well as some experience in driving.
Then think about Driving in questionable weather.
Be safe drive smart -
Not to seem argumentative, but heavy haul isn't allowed to run in weather condition unsuitable. And I've seen just as many flatbeds in the ditch. And a snow flake isn't what we're talking about. If you decide to not run due to weather, it better be for good and documented reason. Saying you feel unsafe in completely drivable conditions isnt the issue. That's just an excuse not to work. What makes this a touchy subject, see above.

alot of weather conditions can also depend on where you are at too, like for instance 4 inches of snow in say TN or AL is greatly different than 4 inches of snow in WI IL MI ND SD MN
