In working with a company with 40 trucks, very high OT hours. GM proposed hiring two extra drivers to rotate in and cover absent drivers. Started doing random rotations. Now developing a schedule so drivers have advance notice, all seems good until both drivers scheduled off are not available and have a driver call in sick. A truck is sitting without a driver. How are absent drivers covered in your experience?

Not to be a wise arse, but they were fired. I had to be pretty sick not to drive.

My terminal has a few part-timers who have day jobs but gladly come in when called to save the day. Otherwise, the work load gets spread out to everybody else.

I had a breakdown and drive called in so I got $25 and hour for a shuttle 3 drop and hooks at service centers.
