After looking at the actual reg- I'm not exempt, build date 11-99 but goes by VIN code which is 2000. Too old for California, but not old enough for to be exempt from ELD. Talk about getting the double middle finger from Gov't! No economic impact? Between the two, the truck is scrap value.

I'm 1 truck under my own authority and I'll do the ELD, I can live with it. BUT the reg is so blatantly written by big carrier interests with no consideration(anti-) for small companies- the record keeping I'll be required to do now is just crazy. I have to also prove I'm not harassing myself to drive I guess....

If it turns out to be like drug testing and I can't get the ELD and administer it myself (have to join an ELD "consortium" to administer it) that WILL be it, off comes the sleeper shorten the frame & run local.

Same here.. If you see my truck pulled over on a wide shoulder after dark with the flashers on, the truck isn't broke down, I'm probably just taking a leak.

Perhaps in the drop and hook world it isn't a big deal and is only a "time managment" issue. But for us who are 100% live load/unload, it's gonna be nasty I think.

Been OTR for 10 years and on Elogs for 6. Just trying to cheer people up here but I found the switch not that hard at all. Yes it does screw me sometimes no doubt but all in all I doubt I've lost much money or sleep from it. Would I go back to paper? In a heartbeat! But for you guys who think it's the end of your OTR career it's not.

You will adjust, I did and I was the most prolific log cheat ever. I still want it changed, I still want to fight but looking at it as a career ender isn't accurate don't let them chase you out of your job too.

I think you're delusional about the rates going up if all the drivers jump ship. Obama will go on national television and tell us we have a Trucking crisis and lots of jobs that Americans are unwilling to do and that we desperately need an influx of third world immigrants to fill those jobs that the Americans are unwilling to do. And it will probably be phrased quite similar to the above acting like we have a desperate need for something and the government is stepping in to offer you the solution to the problem that the government created in the first place.

That will be a major problem,
Even the expert loggers that know how to work it, that little electric log box will jump up and cause someone to miss their daughters birthday,
Me, I cherish the 10 hour break, but I want everyone else to nap here and there, instead of taking up a spot in the truckstop.

Guess it's time to restore the extra 96 and keep my current 96 going so between the 2 guess I would be ok for a long time:)

You still aren't required to use ELDs until December 2017.

Dear God I hope we get some in government by then that have a little common sense and get rid of this BS law.

    Al. Roper Thanks this.
