OK, I follow you now.
When a customer asks me to test an amp, I do exactly that, test it. If no problem is seen, then the amp isn't generally opened up, unless the customer requests it. If a problem IS seen, then I'll open it up and look for possible causes, and discuss repair options with the customer. In your case no problem showed up on my bench or I wouldn't have bothered matching it with the radio. A problem obviously developed later, as your post indicates. I can't speak for the power lead issue without actually seeing the before and after for myself.
As for me talking to someone on the phone while working (business-related or otherwise), that shouldn't be a concern. I don't get into any kind of long conversation on the phone unless its someone who I only get to speak with on rare occasions, because in general I dislike phone calls while I'm working. That's one area where I don't think any apology or explanation is needed, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.
Its possible that you are taking my straight-forward approach to questions/answers as a bad attitude, as I find it extremely difficult to believe that I would have had the kind of attitude you describe on all the occasions you've visited. once, certainly possible, maybe even twice. But unless you had some kind of attitude yourself, three times is all but impossible. Not saying you did, but its highly unlikely that I would displayed an actual attitude like you're describing on all three occasions you were in the shop. I always try my best to treat every customer the same, regardless.
At any rate, I'm sorry you weren't happy with my service.

The ohone call,i soooo beg to differ..You were on aleast 10min and that disturbed me some..I know it wasnt business cause there was no order placed or parts talked it..If memory is correct it was about guitars and amps/gigs..A solid 10-15 min call,i got the impression it was a good friend..
Whats done is done,i hold no grudges of any kind nor did i say any bad comments on tje road..Only comments i ever made is what you saw here.. -
I remember that phone conversation. Yes, that was a good friend who I hardly ever see. She is a guitarist out in the New Jersey music scene, going through a rough time.

Dave owns his own shop, I think he can mix personal and business time any way he wants. What he is doing has worked for many years. Anyone can screw up, give it a rest
Big_m Thanks this. -
I was done after my 1st comment mtoo..I was asked to clarify my point..
Like i said,in "MY MIND"business is done at work and personal elsewhere..
If distracted and something gets missed or messed up then it looks bad on him..
My comments have been said and as i said i hold no grudge..Your right his business to do as he sees fit..My business when and if he works on MY stuff and makes a possible mistake.. -
i have done business with dave for many years. he has repaired a few of my galaxy 99s and i have also purchased several radios from him. i can assure anyone out there reading this, dave is a stand up guy that is one of the best radio techs i have seen.
darthanubis, Big_m, 12 ga and 1 other person Thank this. -
Agreed @ low amperage

If he would invest in a 650 amp variable voltage DC switching power supply Dave would be able to work on the big stuff as well. As long as he stays within the limitations of his bench he does great work. For the low price of $7,347.90 he could build a power supply like the one Mark Sherman has on his bench. Power supplies available here:
PBA1500F-15 Cosel 15 Volt Power Supply PFC

He would need 6 of these. The EMI filters would
run an additional $185.00 for all 6.Last edited: Dec 12, 2015

From what I read on here the people that have had any issues with DBT and Dave are very few and far between. Two years ago I bought a Cobra 29 from Dave and we had several phone conversations before I placed the order. He was polite, courteous and professional at all times. Radio is beyond expectations.
Last September I called again and inquired about a new Galaxy. We agreed on a model and price and I told him I would stop and pick it up the following week. When I arrived at the shop it was discovered that by mistake he had sent my radio to another customer and that guys radio was still in the shop. He immediately called the post office to see where his mail person was and they arranged for Dave to meet the mail man and get my radio back so that ended well and I got a 30 minute nap in the sleeper.
Last night I sent an email to Dave inquiring as to his thoughts on match boxes. This morning shortly after 9:00 while drinking my morning coffee I checked my email and already had a reply from Dave. His advice was not to use one except as a last resort.
I don't know what some people expect in the way of customer service, but I think with Dave you probable get about what you put out towards him.
As for me I think it doesn't get any better than DBT and Dave.rabbiporkchop and sugarpete Thank this.
