renting a truck from the usual places is prohibitively expensive, can your friend let you run his since he is training you?

    SAM-GA Thanks this.

Maybe Daly's Driving School in Buford,GA.

do you already know how to shift a truck transmission? You will need training before testing or will fail more than likely. A restriction with a license is better than no license at all.

    SAM-GA Thanks this.

SAM-GA sounds like you are going the same route I went when I got back into trucking, getting your CDL without going through a CDL school. I had the benefit of using my brother's truck for the skills and road test.

I know in California there were companies that rented trucks for $800 a day for taking the test. You would get a little time behind the wheel and get walked through the pretrip inspection, then use their appointment time to take the tests. They don't have a guarantee, so if you fail the tests and want to retake it you have to come back another day and pop for another $800.

If you already know a company that will hire you then go for it. However, if you don't you may find it is more difficult to get a job. Most companies hiring new drivers need to see you graduated from a certified school, for their insurance purposes.

    Good luck to you.

    SAM-GA Thanks this.

Savannah Tech in Rincon, GA does 3rd party CDL testing in their trucks...all manual. I don't know anything else about how it works though.
