my point eactly....you dont crankup a reciever but shops make money telling somebody they do but
they just start turning pots n most drivers have no idea what they are doing as the so called tech doesnt either

Another quality shop is custom CB radios out of Indiana. The owner is Doug and he is just as good if not better then the others mentioned in this topic.

For a little money a good shop can make a cobra 29 out perform alot of the higher powered export radios and do it very clean with no bleed over.

In the last few years, I've heard exactly ONE good sounding radio. The guy sounded like he was sitting in his living room on an old base--crystal clear. When I inquired as to the brand of radio and where he got his work done, he replied it was a Cobra 29 and the work was done at a shop in Kentucky.

I'm kicking my butt that I can't remember the name of the shop. I haven't heard a radio that sounded that good in a looooong time. No echo board... just crystal clear sound with absolutely zero background noise.

I know this is an old thread but I couldn't help myself. This is what many aspire to achieve but few actually accomplish.

This truck driver's reaction is priceless. Obviously he must be a fairly new driver or someone who is not accustomed to hearing skip coming through his receive.

    I've got a 35 year old setup.

A midland radio, and pair of antler wire whips.

Came off my granddad's old dodge RV hauler he got rid of around 1985.

Spent 20 or so years in a Texas garage.

I dug it out dusted it off, installed it in my truck 8 months ago. Sounds great.

He told me he had the antennas and coax tuned, but i just used the prewired coax already installed in the truck.

I even broke the top half of the passenger side in some trees last month, still getting positive radio checks.

Forget the radio, it's all about the antennas... And what the other guy has.

That guy motormouth maul is running about 50,000 Watts out of his house in California. Power does help but only if its on the fundamental frequency otherwise it's a hindrance. Unless people understand the significance of what the fundamental frequency actually is they probably should not be trying to tamper with their radios or paying people to boost the power output of their radios because 99% of the time the actual performance will suffer after the modification is made.

Lol.. i had about the same reaction first time i heard "the west coast beast" on his "undermodulated cobra 29".
Some guys dont like his sound, but i think he sounds awesome! Better than most of the big skippers on 11m. He's got a lot of work into that station right there...

The funny part is the driver had his squelch cranked up and motormouth maul was still coming in over the squelch.

What's good for my Chevy Tahoe might not be good for your vehicle it all depends on the vehicle.
