How many hours do you work in a week at your present job?

Need a lot more info.
100k isn't bad, you sure as heck won't make that right away if you buy a truck.
If you make 100k but live the lifestyle of someone making half that you may be OK. If not you're probably going to regret it really quickly. -
I average 55 hrs a week sometimes more. Rotating shift work with ####ty management. Days off vary. I work quite a few of them.

Um, not to be an arse, but have you ever done any trucking? Any cross country driving (not at all the same, but it's at least an indicator if you can handle long drives). What industry are you currently in, and what is making you lean towards Big Truck Truck Driving?

Sounds like you are in a good position to evaluate your options. Your current job will suck a lot less if you know your goal is work you ### off to save the capital you will need to start your own Business. I really think you need to consider how much money it is going to cost to start your business. What are you capital requirements and how much of that will be financed. This would be everything you need to turn the key and run. Forecast operating costs including financed monthly payments over a five year period. Estimated revenue. Have enough money left over to cover all your household plus business expenses for 6 month may be more. It is going to be A LOT of work, especially the first two years.
Your new job will be business owner first, driver second.bcon Thanks this. -
I've driven big trucks in 40 states so the experience is there. Just trying to decide what route to go. If not now, I plan to drive after I retire for a while. But that's 25 #### years out

Buy some rental property.
Join www.OOIDA.com
Become a company driver somewhere for 12 months.
Buy a truck.
Freymiller has a "Restore Program" for drivers that have been off the road for awhile. A few other companies have something similar.Last edited: Dec 19, 2015
