Let me talk to a person that knows the cams PDI sells, he might have some ideas.

I also want to check on what cam is considered the stage 1, most of them are cat cams they have repackaged and removed the part numbers on so I want to double check and see what the stage 1 is supposed to be.

Yep. I second that motion. Been there done that with the 800 cam. I'm also running the 625 injectors. I ended up going back to the stock cam also.

As for the 16:1 pistons, those suckers are kinda hard to come by. IPD said they wasn't even allowed to make them anymore last time I spoke with them about a set for an MXS. Even CAT said there's not many of them laying around last time I called.

Hopefully someone will find out why the PDI/ 800 cat cam acts this way.

Honestly some guys have problems with that cam and some don't. It's weird.
I personally think there's a lot of variables that come into play with each engine. Cam timing, the way it was set up when installed. The programming in the ecm, and of course injector size.

If the moon and stars are all lined up right it seems they will be ok but most guys have issues with that cam.
I know a few local engine builders here that will not install that cam anymore because it's not worth the hassle with unhappy customers. Same thing it's hot or miss if it works right . Mostly miss thou.
I really don't see the benefit, if you want more HP just get a bigger file or injectors . Leave the cam alone

I agree. With a good file and good hard parts done right, the stock cam does a great job from what I have found. I have my block cut and bores done at the same time and if it's done right by someone that knows what they are doing, it's fine.

Mine has been living fine for a while now at over 750 hp and heavy all the time. Before I done the block, I could NEVER seem to get rid of the famous spacer plate gasket oil leak on my MXS. I'm still running my twins and it's right as rain since I took the marine cam out and put my stock one back in.

Josh did you buy that cam from PDI direct or from a dealer?

12 16:1 pistons available from cat last time I looked Adam, and actually that was all I checked for so there could have been more.

I know a guy that is matching 18:1s identically to the 16:1 with bowl machining if you are interested.
