I was lucky enough to meet Ernie a couple times
One of the Boston fish Dealers met him in Mexico on vacation
they chartered a boat together to go catch sails
the next year he came to Boston and for 3 days I took them out chasing tuna. Just a regular nice guy wanting to catch a fish and drink a beer. My years get mixed up by decades but had to be around '80.
The owner of the marina was a retired Boston Bruin
we all hated taking those guys out fishing
they really were the Big Bad Bruins back then
drinking then fighting was how those days got spent

I've been pulling a reefer OTR for a little over a year. Thinking about looking for a new gig and Abilene is among the companies I'm considering applying with. I know the trucks don't have apu's and I just saw this regarding idling.

"45% idle policy in hot weather"

The above came from a 2012 post regarding Abilene. What exactly does it mean and is it still relevant?

    A bit of trivia...

Dawn Wells was the only cast member to make out good financially on that series... She, or rather her husband (?), negotiated a cut of ongoing revenues so when the show was syndicated she was the only one to continue to get a paycheck.

Not relevant. And honestly, 45% is a big number to achieve. I think the lowest I ever had was 40%. They want us to be comfortable on our breaks. I idle every night/day on my breaks in the warm months. Winter time is different, we have auxiliary heaters that do the trick. In 3 years here I've never been spoken to about it.

Great to hear! I don't idle just to idle but I have to be comfortable during warmer months.

Abilene sounds like a good company. Only thing I've heard so far that makes me wary of applying is the driver facing cameras.

The cameras suck, but if you are not doing anything that you shouldn't be doing, you have nothing to be concerned about.

I realize that, it's just the thought of a camara always pointed at me gives me the creeps.

    Alright... My turn to complain!!!

I admit that I don't sweep out dust from every trailer I drop and I don't mind if when I do that I am sweeping out dust and a few other things from others' loads but #7193 was the worst one I have ever cleaned out.

I pulled 64 (SIXTY FOUR) nails out of the wood deck of this trailer (yes I counted them) and only a hand full of those seemed to be from this HP load. There were a few different types of nails and varying amounts of rust so they were from a few different loads that is certain.

There were 3 (THREE) security tags from Gatorade IN the trailer so it was never cleaned out from at least the last three loads from them and that's assuming the tags were from the last three loads so it could have been more than the last three loads.

And I highly doubt that Gatorade uses nails to secure their product, but I am new here and don't know that for a fact... ;-) ... So we are talking SEVERAL loads here.

Ok... So I cleaned out a trailer (AND VENTED)... Just waiting on my next load to drop to the QC and I will move along.... with a nice clean trailer.

    Stay Safe,
    MD
