I don't know why everybody gets all slobbery over an auto trans. The computer tells it what gear to be in because some genius pulled a number out of his butt, even though the computer can't tell anything else that's going on in regards to terrain, weather, traffic etc. That's why I want to have control over what gear I'm in. Don't even have to think about shifting

I see your name is mountaingote. Do you travel lots of grades? I can see why you'd want that control if that's the case.

Yes the computer can tell if you're climbing or descending. A simple gyroscope will let the computer know. Wheel sensors can also detect slippage which indicates rain/snow/gravel etc.

It's not a genius pulling stuff out of their butt. It's a group of people studying how we drive to try and improve our tech and hopefully make us safer. It's not perfect but neither are we. I'm sure we've all missed a gear every once in a while.

I'm on the Midwest and regional so its relatively flat, until I hit Kentucky but that's limited.

Also, I'm here to learn and not judge. If I came off as judgemental than I apologize. I totally respect your opinion as its as valid as mine. :)

Automatic transmission on a semi truck is for women!

Acceleration sucks. Turning on a specific gear sucks. I can't rev while I cruise. The sync between engine break and auto gear sucks. Reverse is good. Modern trucks are for pansies. I used to downshift alll the way to the red light, now I have to use the breaks 99% of the time.

Also, sometimes the auto transmission keeps wanting to stay in 12th gear when I want it to be in 10th, so I downshift it and then the stupid computer goes back to 12th. At that point I start punching the pedal with my foot because this computer thinks climbing a 6% is OK in 12th. Stupid auto. Plastic trucks are the worst.

Do you have a daughter? I do and I'm sorry but that's offensive to me and I'm sure other father's out there.

Which AMT did you use? I haven't experienced what you're saying which is why I'm curious.

How is it not offensive? You're implying that women are inferior. Would you say that to your daughter? That she somehow she couldn't use a manual trans because she's a woman?

I know women that use manuals and love em over AMT's.

You missed what I was saying. The computer can't tell up or down until it actually happens, same with corners or traffic situations. I will do my own thinking...and shifting. I guarantee my judgement is better than a computer

Autos are like elogs. They work best for lazy people that won't use their brain.

I drove one once. And that was enough for me.

I see what you're saying now. I think your correct about it being unable to anticipate. It definitely is reactionary. Hmmm, now you're making me think which is what I wanted.

    Thanks for the input bud.
