I would. I worked for a family company where I made $85,000+ a year and enjoyed my job and the people I worked with. I left to go heavy haul for a union crane company 6 miles from my house. If I ever need a job I wouldn't hesitate to go back to my former employer. Would I have to start at the bottom under people who hired on after I left? Sure, but I guarantee it wouldn't take me long to get back to the top of the mountain because I already did it once.
Got terminated

Steering wheel holders are a dime a dozen. There are drivers who are the cream of the crop, and then there is everybody else. We get the job done and don't need our hand held. We make ourselves assets to the people we choose to work for, not liabilities. We will never be out of a job because we will always be in demand.misterG, xlsdraw, Sneakerfix and 1 other person Thank this. -
I gave my retirement notice to take effect two weeks before Christmas. Business was slow in 2007 and the younger drivers with families needed the hours. Also, I did not want to milk the company for holiday pay and then retire a week later. The company was owned by a Jewish family, and they responded with a pizza party at which I received a jacket and an inscribed clock.
Diesel Dave, 25(2)+2 and SHOJim Thank this. -
Too bad the company does not see us older experienced guys as an asset! We get treated just like the steering wheel holders for the most part!

Now if you do work for a company that appreciates you that's a different story...go ahead and give your 2 weeks it's a courtesy.demi Thanks this. -

There are many reason why you should give and why not to give, nether answer is right nor wrong, I can agree there are times a company doesn't deserve a notice, but there are times they do, now how can anyone argue that!

Of course it depends on how you were treated prior to the notice or desire to quit.... that goes without saying.
