Actually I have. That said, I also see how it is a bait that one poster can not pass up.
Perhaps if the bait gets passed up a few times, then the subject dies.

That I all understand and I have thought about that... but that being said, what is posted on an open forum from one driver, a lot of other drivers see and now they take that as a fact.

Then someone will mention it to another and somewhere in another Forum or thread the now incorrect statement is passed on.

IF it is bait or not, I feel the statement is too "open" to the product that I need to correct the incorrect statement, not only for new users, but for those seeking information on what product to buy.

I always mention that the "statement" is quite a few years old as I have been on TTR to see them all. I dealt with the user many times in offering to assist in looking at his unit in my hands, with shipping paid for both ways. He declined my services. That is his choice. I don't force my services on anyone, but I will work at anytime with anyone needing my services, no matter what day or time if I am at home and available. I have driven several hundred miles to assist drivers with their units.

Snowwy knows about AZ-93 being an Non-Staa route, with his comment,, other trucks are on it. This does not make it legal and if AZ decided to enforce their restrictions, a lot of drivers will be cited for OD. I have to deal with what is legal and not legal in giving out information. I also give information out for certain area's like Atlanta. Anything inside the loop is off limits to trucks and you will not be routed, Changing to car mode will help with you being aware of any posted restrictions.

In closing, a statement was made that was incorrect. I corrected the statement. I am just tired of the user constantly posting the incorrect statement due to his settings he chose four years ago and holding that against RM constantly and posting such constantly.

I represent a product since I am employed by RM and I provide such service to TTR. In representing a product any incorrect statement that will affect the product needs to corrected.

Ok, so you agree that "one poster", not the one responding to the "one poster" both brought the bait and the dead horse. Not sure why you were accusing a different poster for doing so when it was "one poster" that actually did it.

I disagree, mis-information is at its worse when its not challenged. No disrespect to Snowwy but his information while perhaps accurate once was not up to date. I frowned when I read it the first time because it simply was not true in my case. That's not to say it did not happen to him, merely that the problem appears to be fixed. If Mark, who clearly is knowledgable about this issue wants to take it on then so be it. That is not a bad thing. A healthy debate is okay, in fact it may be the very point of forums.

Mark is correct, this is a open forum, he has every right to respond as do you. No rules were broken and I'll dare say that most were probably entertained. Mark does not hide the fact that he has a relationship with RM, he has every right to feel passion for this and every right to defend and correct statements. I can attest that in my experience and mine alone, Mark is the one correct here. Maybe others have different results, I can only speak for me and my RM. Again, just to be crystal clear, I am not poking Snowwy here, I was not in his truck when the RM failed him and I have no doubt he is being truthful. I'm just saying that I had a far better experience.

Those points of view are just as vital and that should be recognized. This forum exist for information, we don't know who will read this in the future. A GPS is a great tool, especially for a new driver so all in all I feel this was a good exchange.

I guess I just get burned out on seeing this go on and on from both sides.
As it drags across multiple topics and posts. It usually goes into some form of flame war, killing and or distracting from the actual discussion at hand.

This debate could evolve into a number of topics, it is the internet and an open forum, and with that comes the caveats of the media.

So from the OP it's a possible mixed bag of Pros and Cons with either route of GPS units.

I do like the fact that the RM has "Truck Speed Limits" as Speed Limits in general are lacking in my current GPS selection.

Thank you to the OP for the summation of his hands on experiences with both brands.

Garmin does have truck speed limits on the 560, 570 and 770 units

Currently a few are out of date, like Idaho, still has 65MPH. As you update maps these will be updated.
    Map updates are done quarterly.

I just bought the Rand McNally 730. So far its been great. A couple small hiccups, but nothing major. I'm going to update it today(its free) and hope it continues to do just fine. Had it for 3 weeks now.

At the time i tried rand. There was no settings for NON staa or not. There was also no tech support or what not. As much as Mark Kling likes to say there was and he was there. I never heard of him nor saw his tech support threads till 12 months later. I've been on this forum over 7 years now. As far as incorrect statements. I KNOW WHAT THE THING DID. Mark don't. I know what settings it had. I also know that when it took me to prescott, AZ. It couldn't get me out. It routed me around and around through residential neighborhoods. That was the last time i used THAT rand.

Mark has some links to when he first started. But i have no idea where they were. At that time. I do, however, recall when the first support thread started. Long after i got rid of my rand.

Here's another example. Me and 2 other drivers all leaving the truckstop to pick up our loads in the morning. AT THE SAME PLACE. Copilot routed me straight through. Rand took the other 2 drivers OVER the top of portland.

The last time i used rand gps. Was with the company that was installing rand's EOBR. Only took me one trip to know that rand STILL CAN'T ROUTE EFFICIENTLY.

I'm picky about the things i use. I prefer the utmost quality. I like things that work, WITHOUT having to check and double check with other resources.

Some of you like to say that a product that comes with tech support on the net. Holds a pretty high standard in their book.

To me. A product that works WITHOUT needing some type of support. Holds a HIGHER standard in my book. SPECIALLY, since we are all out on the road. And don't have time to wait for assistance. OR, have to send the thing back for repairs.
