Find the thread by @double yellow on TTR. He went the "my own authority" route and explained the process - and anguish - in great detail.

Just realize that 30k truck has the potential to cost several more k just to get it able to pass DOT. Sure the mechanic will pass it, he gets paid to. The DOT get paid if it don't pass, if you catch my drift.

I suppose you wouldn't have to have a trailer if you only done load outs or drop/hooks. Having your own trailer has potential to make more money and honestly doesn't cost a whole lot more. The tractor is the money pit, lemons leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

Oh and 3%? At that percentage, let's say you made a whopping 250K that is $7500 to you or $20.55 a day.... I would rather flip burgers! More realistically it will be more around the $150k that is $4500 to you or $12.33 a day. I think you should really sit down and do some serious math about the costs of operating from parts, fuel, irp/ifta, saving for mechanical issues, fines, fees and penalties. Then pay yourself... maybe dad might want you to move out one day.

Go to ooida they will help you get your authority its around $800???? Insurance is the big issue up in jersey $14,000+. Worst part is its 40% down, so around 5500 dollars to start the insurance.

lol the reason I said 3% is because I came from a family that lived on roman noodles so technically even though I make about $4400 a month as company driver I only spend about $30 dollars a month of it at walmart mostly for ham sandwiches and chips. I only plan to live on 3% starting up simply to build up operating cost

Why would you pay $500 more for the authority when it is simple clicks on a keyboard that takes 15-30 minutes max???? Poor business decision right from the start.

Get ready for tons and tons of research or tons of money spent on some company doing all of the legwork for you, some people just don't realize in detail how many things you have to know and do to be 100% legal when you have your own authority. To save you a lot of research time, call OOIDA and they can handle it for you.
