Hi, I am attending orientation at Swift in Syracuse,NY on Jan 12th. I am wanting too find out more information about the road test, is there a backing test and a pre trip test as well? I do have experience driving, I have drove for con-way truckload and prime inc. Is anyone else headed too the same orientation. All the information I found on the road test online was about student drivers. I didn't not find much for experienced drivers. If anyone knows information about the experienced drivers road test at swift let me know, unless it would be the same as the students road test. Thank you, Michael

Good luck it's not a hard road test you just drive on major highway for about 15 minutes come back choose where you feel comfortable to back its easy don't worry . Just worry after you pass and you on the road for swift make sure you are a perfect driver because they do try to hurt your csa score and dac in order to keep drivers and they have a very strict points system designed to hurt driver's if you decide to further your carrier good luck man.

Swift doesn't 'try' to hurt your CSA or DAC, that is all the drivers' doing.

In Fontana the driving test was taking the truck out of the terminal and going around a large block - 6 right hand turns including exiting and entering the terminal, the second to last being to the road to the terminal. That was a narrow road, and if you tried to make the turn with cross traffic waiting to turn you would fail.
I sat there for a couple minutes waiting for the traffic to clear so I could use the whole road, otherwise I would have curbed the trailer tires. It was the right thing to do, even though I blocked my lane behind me. Many failed at that turn.
Then you get back in the terminal and you are required to back the trailer into a certain spot, which was pretty tight. If you didn't get out and look at least twice you would probably be failed. I guess if you set up perfectly, and smoothly backed it in it would not be a problem. But in that tight a space most noobs can't do that.
They expect at least one G.O.A.L. in that back. Going back around to set up again is also acceptable.

Minor issues like getting cited for something that was really in their control?
Or getting dinged because Family Dollar is a really lousy account, and they just can't do the impossible?

Many new drivers have such hopes of becoming super drivers quickly, and they over extend.

I'm just telling how it is like I said they grab these inexperienced drivers put them with a trainer that just wants the miles don't care about teaching and if they tried to teach they can't cuase they 6 months fresh out of trucking school them selves it's a joke than they want to make a crazy point system of course you gonna rack up on points the sad part is they don't tell you anything to you leave and try to find somewhere else to work cuase family dollar was to hard of account I knew a kid that begged to get off family dollar but they told him that they can't cuase he wasn't running his logs wrong it is impossible to keep your logs wright on that account.
