I never understood the concept of paying the bank dollars of interest to save pennies on that dollar in taxes. Trucker math?

For someone running a lot of miles annually a new truck makes sense. Otherwise an older truck will do just fine. Mine quit depreciating years ago and I don't miss the write off.

Dunno! I do know the debt free company I currently drive for sell their trucks after they've been depreciated to 0.

@DaveLV As the owner of Lone Mountain, I'm curious as to how we are "some of the biggest crooks in the industry."

    Thanks,

It doesn't make sense for a company to keep older trucks the maintenance costs would be thru the roof not to mention retention issues. Most companies lease trucks anyways never taking ownership. Buying trucks outright if you have a fleet of 150 trucks is a waste of resources.

Long FLD and 59EX Thank this.

where did I say paying no taxes, less taxes doesn't mean no taxes. my mother in law is a tax professional, there are many other ways to lessen taxes. there are ways to buy things that actually turn out better than depreciation, if I get a new truck with payments of 30,000 a year , I would rather pay 10k in extra taxes say with my old truck and keep the 20k in payments. there is a point of dimishing returns

@FinkPloyd - I've been on this forum giving out helpful advice to newbies for years. As have most of the other drivers you are arguing with. Maybe take some time when you have it to wade through some of that stuff from the past - might give you a whole nother perspective

And I could really give a #### less about the "thanks" and think the forum would be best without it. Typically though if someone posts something I agree with that's my way of saying, yep, you got it right, I agree with you.

Not that it matters but I come here when i have time to kill to read, learn, comment or whatever. I was talking with a friend just the other day ago what a complete waste of time it seems to be here or anywhere else offering up anything with all the trolls and whatnot. It's turning into Facebook. Useless and annoying.
