We needed to unload that trailer, it was that nights load and it was several hours late.

She just couldn't get it in the dock and I was the only associate with any trucking experience.

I've never been inside a girls truck. Is it like a girls bathroom? Does it smell like rose petals and everything is clean?

I know by reading the papers that Wal-Mart bailed on that driver that hit Tracy Morgan's limo and killed one of the passengers in New Jersey. He's being charge with aggravated manslaughter and vehicle homicide and a bunch more. Wal-Mart went on their own into the courts and paid a undisclosed amount of cash to make Morgan happy. But most companies will do the same. Watch that case and you'll see how a driver will go to prison for not paying attention.

That's what they are saying. 28 hours and 800 miles.

No, he was perfectly legal. He just hadn't slept in 28 hours.

Recruiters will tell you anything to get you in that truck. She's sitting in an office in Phoenix and has no idea that Opelousas is 50 miles from Baton Rouge. I've never worked for Swift or Walmart, but I did Kroger deliveries out of a DC here in TN for FirstFleet and I know that DCs in general are VERY strict about gate times. That means that your load HAS to be out of the gate by the set time. They'll put you on loads with gate times set for the minute your break is up. So after working a 14 hr shift, you get 10 off. You have to drive 50 + miles home, eat, sleep, 50 + miles back and be ready to go at your gate time. That will get old fast and expensive paying for all that gas. You'll be exhausted constantly. It'll be easier just to sleep in the truck at the DC. Home every night just turned into home a couple nights a week. Long story short- dont expect to ever get the full story from a recruiter.

    VaGump and Thull Thank this.
