I just never bought into this argument. Otr drivers are doing a job just like anyone else. They arent special and they dont deserve praise. What if all construction workers stopped working? Drivers wouldnt be able to deliver their freight crosscountry. What if all warehouse workers stopped working? The economy stops. What if garbage men stopped working? The country stops. What if cops stopped working? Anarchy. I could go on. No i wont consider what otr drivers do for me any more than i will consider any other crucial career in our economy.

Let me chime in on the ups information. I am currently a full time package driver for ups now. Iam at top scale at 34.39 hr. I make around 110k a year with overtime and holiday pays. You cant really beat the bennies they have. U pay nothing for insurance for u and ur family. Cant beat that. Its monday thru friday home every night and weekend. I am personally going to leave ups to go drive for tmc and get my cdl. Dont get me wrong ups is a great company ro work for. Ups is very very hard on your body. We just had a training and in that they said after u retire the average life expectancy is 3 to 5 years. Just because its so much starin on ur body and when u stop ur body starts to break down lol. Ive made alot of money at ups so iam good to give this up.

To the OP. I have made a good living driving CMVs. You are a bit young at this point. I am convinced that at some point you can become a driver. My main concern is what seems to be a hot foot. One of the fastest ways I know to become unemployable in this industry is get a lot of tickets that show irresponsibility as a driver. Slow down, be safe and you will be OK.

Ups will work you like a dog as a package delivery. Working 12 hour days running your but off. And if you have any aspirations of a class A driver I hope you have about 30 years to wait for it. At least that's what the ups class A guys I run into tell me.

If I got a ticket for all the dumb #### I did behind the wheel when I was 18 I probably wouldn't even have a class C license anymore

One ticket isn't gonna hold you back for too long, many companies only ask about the previous 3 years.

Dang it. Wish I was 20 years old again. I talked to a guy several years ago at a ups terminal , asked him now he liked working there. He had to think for a mini ute then said it was ok. Just ok. I've heard they will wirk you to death but the money is real good. Oh well maybe in the next life

Yeah that's about $75 dollars an hour working 70 hours a week for a whole year. Not even UPS makes that kind of money.

Face it UPS and FEDEX are busy during the holidays. They even say on their advertisement they are hiring for the holiday season. So you see it has nothing to do about fuel because I can tell you that the winter is not the busy season for fuel haulers. If you are talking about fuel for heating that business stays steady throughout the year.

How much do you think that equals in hourly pay. I would guess around $96 an hour. Do you really think they make that much? If they do I'll come out of retirement and go to work for them. It wouldn't take me very long to make a good paying turn around because of my record. 20 years driving with a spotless record and 10 years verifiable experience hauling gasoline for a major oil company.
